What's the most useless thing you ever bought?

Unread postby Madpaddy » Sun 25 Sep 2005, 17:07:26

Now I'm PO aware there are some purchases in my past life I am deeply ashamed embarrassed and even in denial about.

For instance, I can't believe that only 2 years ago i bought a leaf blower. With or without PO, it's just wrong to buy one of those things. It was great for annoying the neighbours though.

Anybody else got any more gems.

BTW, it's good to be back on the board but it's only temporary. I'm off again in 6 more hours for some more head melting instruction on a course I'm doing.

My education.

I owe the Swedish state around 35.000 Euros for a university degree which gives me the opportunity to work so hard in a job I hate that I come home late in the evening and throw up blood.

I could have become a plumber or a carpenter instead and now make a lot of money and meet some interesting housewifes...

I still have a crappy, rarely used 'backup' mongrel brand CPU unit from a few years ago; me being a techy-programmer type it was easy to justify the purchase despite having a perfectly adequate main PC. Being an Athlon 1.4 GHZ it was fast enough, but I rarely used it because power-on it was noisier than a small jet engine :-x or maybe even a leaf-blower 8)

When I moved a couple of months ago, I dragged it with me even though I haven't powered it on for a year or so, just because that was easier to do than dispose of the damn thing, including wiping the hard disk and all that.

A sewing machine. I bought it cause the wife wanted one, built her a nice sewing table with folding extension.....
Hasnt been used once in over a year. Course, the table did come in handy top set the rest of our shit on.

A cell phone with a contract that gives me 120 miniutes per month. I use the phone maybe 35 miniutes a month. I have way more plan than I need. At least it only costs me $41.36 per monthc, (for a 2 year contract). Holy shit! That's $992.64 for the contract length! I could have bought me an excllent condition Springfield Arms M1 and had more fun out of it than out of a damn cell phone! 8O I think when my contract runs out, I will go with TracFone like I did before.

I have unlimited anytime minutes, unlimited text messaging, yadda yadda.
Pretty much unlimited everything anytime.

Its nice. Especially since the wife likes to talk on the phone.
My contract length is 2 years. For what I pay I could have bought a case and a half of ammo for the Bushie.
I'll let you do the math. 8)

I went to one of those discount tool sales they hold in empty buildings and bought a set of drill bits for next to nothing. They awe so soft they corkscrewed on me as I drilled through the back of an auto seat :-x

A very powerful Italian sportscar that is so low I had to regrade my driveway just to get it out of my yard without tearing off the spoiler. It's a lot of fun tho. Oh gawd is that thing a hoot! 8O 8O

My very first paintball gun was a POS that broke each and every ball when it chambered.

A few incredibly cheap Chinese made tools from back when Harbor Freight first opened in the USA.

Some old SCUBA regulators that I'd planned on refurbishing for use as backup regs on pony bottles.

An old Rolex Submariner ref 5513 that had so much corrosion on the case that it was no longer water-resistant at operational depths.

Any number of gems, minerals, fossils, old guns, antiques, artworks etc........

I think the leafblower is going to be a tough one to beat. I inherited mine, but never used it. It just seemed faster to use a rake. I think my leafblower is currently taking up space in a storage unit I am paying $122 per month for (to house all my other 'stuff' while I am in Poland).

The one thing that comes to my mind is this PC game I bought called Savage. Cost me $50 and was undoubtedly the biggest piece of shit to ever grace a compact disc. I'm serious. I would have gotten more for my money's worth to wipe myself with it, than to even install it.

Worse multiplayer shooter ever. EVER
It made me weep for the glory days of such classic titles as Wolfenstein 3D, the original DooM (and its sequel) and *Blake Stone. Those games were from a time when developers actually cared about their products.

*If anyone picks up on that reference, congratulations, you are a PC game nerd. ^_^
