$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('PenultimateManStanding', 'M')y boy used to say to me all the time, 'I'm going to be like you Dad'. In a crazy, collapsing world, the only ties that last and keep their meaning are family ties. I couldn't see putting my kids in the local Middle School because I've worked there and the scene is terrible. So my wife and I forked out the money to put them in a Catholic school. When he graduated they gave him the school's highest honor. After all the other awards were given for various achievements, he got the 'School Award' for the 'spirit of reconciliation', i.e. he was the peacemaker. I'm not a practising Christian and I don't believe the promises about eternal life, but the Christian message is about reconciliation and civilized values. We are all born with 'baggage', difficult emotions that would smash our personal world if we gave them free rein. The ideological component of our minds seems to be tied to these archaic troublesome emotions. If ever we needed Christ-like ideas and feelings to arise, now is the time.

So you put your kids in an upper class school and they gave them a "diploma" which you can find in a Chinese fortune cookie or in a a box of cornflakes? I wish I had a box of cornflakes when I grew up.

Jesus! (no pun intended)

Upper class, intellectual BS is what I would call this. Don't get me wrong. I really respect the love you want to show your children. Nazi-school deportation is maybe the wrong place to express that.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('PenultimateManStanding', 'M')aybe I can make things clearer if I point out how I made a tape of 60's music for my beloved boy for his recent trip to Japan. When he returned he wanted to know who did 'Dazed and Confused' the Led Zeppelin song:

Dazed And Confused
(Page)

Been Dazed and Confused for so long it's not true.
Wanted a woman, never bargained for you.
Lots of people talk and few of them know,
soul of a woman was created below.

You hurt and abuse tellin' all of your lies.
Run around sweet baby, Lord how they hypnotize.
Sweet little baby, I don't know where you've been.
Gonna love you baby, here I come again.

Every day I work so hard, bringin' home my hard earned pay
Try to love you baby, but you push me away.
Don't know where you're goin', only know just where you've been,
Sweet little baby, I want you again.

Been dazed and confused for so long, it's not true.
Wanted a woman, never bargained for you.
Take it easy baby, let them say what they will.
Will your tongue wag so much when I send you the bill?

Methinks he's troubled by the same things that trouble me when I was his age. You see what love is?

Methinks you need to have your head and ass wired together again.

Alcohol can be a good friend. It can also be a one way ticket to hell. Trust me. I know what I'm talking about. King Alcohol is an enemy.
