End of Resealable Yogurt Cups

Unread postby BabyPeanut » Thu 15 Sep 2005, 09:57:13

The idea that anyone reseals a tiny cup of yogurt so that they can enjoy two 3 ounce servings from a 6 ounce cup  has come to an end for Dannon:

Dammit! That was a reason for buying Dannon yogurt - you got a nifty little resealable container that would last for years! :-x

We are actively working toward the day when we can get our product and packaging to you in ways which through the manufacture, transportation, use and re-cycling back into our resource base, will not create wastes that pollute our waters, emit greenhouse and ozone damaging gases, and deplete our natural resources. Our ideal packaging may mean that when you're finished eating your yogurt, you'll consume the delicious (and nutritious) container, or toss it onto your compost pile to return to its carbon roots.

the whole point of packaging is to protect the food inside. I wouldn't eat the packaging, who knows where it's been.

Other companies (Giant Food) used to have the tops but went to the thicker Al foil lids a long time ago. Wonder why Dannon is making such a big deal (PR?) about it? We buy the large 32 oz cups and use tupperware type containers for lunch and the use the yogurt cups for transplanting garden plants.

My guess is that Dannon realized that they could save a bundle in packaging costs--especially with petroleum in the $60+/barrel price range.

Maybe we'll see the return of the good-old milk bottle?

Ditto for potatos and carrots. Stuck in yucky dirt. Eww. Don't want to eat them.

Those who do like to reseal their yogurt cups will probably just buy more cling-film plastic wrap.

except, you wash potatoes and carrots before you eat them. the whole idea of yogurt in a small container is so that it's portable and you can take it around with you.

I don't expect an edible container but you do eat apples with peels on don't you?
