If the Price of Oil Keeps Going Up

<peakoil.com> will have to migrate to some faster server(s).

Is it just me or has this site been getting some mad traffic lately, as the price of crude
keeps rising?

Not surprisingly, use of the site is way up since I joined about a year ago. At that time, it would be unusual for more than 100 or so people to be online. Who knows, a year or two hence there may be thousands on at a time!

Where did the donate button go? Is peakoil.com relying on advertising now to support it? If they do need to move to a faster server, it would probably be better to do it sooner rather than later, before we reach "peak bandwith". I remember what it was like when it went down last time as a result of too much growth. Not fun!

At the time of this writting, 366 guests and 96 members are online. 492 total people - this is the most I've ever seen, and I don't think it's an accident that it happened on yet another record day for oil prices - $67 / barrel!!??!! What was it at the beginning of this week - 58 - 60?

Well about a hour ago I posted on CTV.com where theres nothing but middle/upper class "soccor" Moms about this site.. about 99% are driving SUV's and live in suburbia....
They are "somewhat" receptive now as compared too last year at this time when I was called a tin~foil hat person, and worse....

And also on a "upper~class" fishing/boating board,, they are getting "real" receptive here latly on my views on Oil depleation, in fact theres a Oil industry explorer engineer there that agrees with me as we spare on the subject... Though I asked, He will not come over and comment here....
He's in the deep~sea exploration...For a Major Oil company

:?:

I see it now, tucked under "Home" in the side menu bar, but it's not very eye-catching. I donated when it first was installed, but I haven't lately. (In my defense, I'm poor right now) I really liked the way they did it in the beginning, when they had a goal & showed how close they were to reaching it.

I think Aaron has mentioned in another thread that they do need to upgrade.

Ah, just trying to express my embarassment, as considering how much time I've
been spending here lately I should donate.

Should have remembered PO is 'listener sponsered' before I posted.

Those types of suburbia stay at home mom types are generally so annoying because they think they are authorities on everything and go nuts when someone presents a point of view different from their world.

I guess the joke is on them since they have to drive about 2-5 miles just to get out of their neighborhood to go anywhere when oil is going up a dollar a day.

Really off topic but there is one such person on yahoo msg. boards that has become a Legend on the internet.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')hose types of suburbia stay at home mom types are generally so annoying because they think they are authorities on everything and go nuts when someone presents a point of view different from their world.

Well, speaking as one, not *all* of us suburban stay-at-home mom types are like that. But, yeah, there are some "prickly" ones out there.

Eric_b, don't feel bad, it was a good reminder of the importance of supporting the site. I haven't donated in a while, so I think I will after reading this thread. I still think they should have a snazzier donate button, tho. :)
