$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'B')ig BP oil rig listing badly in U.S. Gulf By Jim Jelter, MarketWatch Update: July 11, 2005
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- BP Plc. said late Monday that Thunder Horse, one if its big Gulf of Mexico deepwater oil rigs, was listing badly after Hurricane Dennis swept through area this past weekend. The semi-submersible rig, an essential component in the development of the Thunder Horse oil and gas field on Mississippi Canyon Block 778, about 150 miles southeast of New Orleans, was heeled over at an angle of 20 to 30 degrees, the company said.
While too early to say what caused the rig to lean, righting and repairing it could pose a costly delay to BP's plans to bring the field on line later this year.

And we thought Dennis didn't hurt any infrastructure.
See the picture here..doesn't look good!

This is just like last year when the news barely whispered about the damage Ivan did to off-shore oil rigs.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('BabyPeanut', 'T')his is just like last year when the news barely whispered about the damage Ivan did to off-shore oil rigs.

Bad news on the destruction Ivan brought trickled out slowly. It was almost a week later when we found out that waves 100 feet tall battered rigs and underwater structures.

Wasn't Thunder Horse one of the megaprojects that was going to help stave off peak oil for a bit? :?

Oh well.

It's all smushed over to one side and stuff, wonder if they can take it to (honk! honk!) AAMCO?

250k barrels a day is a fair amount of production, though this damage may not delay things for much more than a few weeks i dont think.

just shows you though that things never go 100% smooth and on time in oil projects, as the guy that did the mega-project update said. Another few problems in other new projects would surely bring the peak forward, yet extend the plateau a little further.

Looks like we're there though, give or take a couple of million barrels.

I find it rather funny how something that used to be totally irrelevant for the price of sweet crude oil can nowadays rocket oilprices in an instance. Last week we saw thehurricane forecast in Middle America, today we have the malfunctioning of just one, even still under development oil platform. These minor events immediately have effect on oil prices.

It looks like the market has taken notice and the price of oil is going up again!

I'd also like to add that the tropical storm "Emily"'s projected path seems to cross with Thunderhorse, just like Denis.

Yikes. 3-6 months? That's not going to be good for the 4th quarter.

What happened? I thought BP was saying it could be an easy problem to fix.
