Following the Capital Flows

ExxonMobil publishes a thirty page quarterly shareholders glossy -- "the Lamp".

This quarter's cover tells of their joint venture with Qatar Petroleum in building a new generation of liquefied natural gas vessels. Oil field development is only mentioned in passing and has no story of its own.

Concerned Americans of all stripes might want to inspect this map of LNG terminals.

Please note: of the 44 in consideration only five are open.

The biggest sweet-light company in the world is investing their future in LNG, and it doesn't appear that NA is in a position to buy.

Why couldn't they even consider putting one in the great lakes somewhere?

Oh yeah, the people who make these decisions think the world begins and ends on the coasts.

British(beyond) Petroleum has an interesting strategy for exploration and production:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')
Managing the decline of existing producing assets and divesting assets when they no longer compete in our portfolio.

Their gas power and renewables strategy has an entirely different tone:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')
-Develop a leading low-carbon energy business across the value chain.

-Access cost-competitive supply.

-Capture distinctive world-scale gas market positions by accessing key pieces of infrastructure.

-Expand gross margin by providing distinctive products and services to selected customer segments and optimizing the gas and power value chains.

There's another major going after the gas!

Good morning all and have a nice day!

I'll look at more of the majors down thread; tomorrow.

A quick comparison between EM and BP:

EM appears very focused and single minded in their approach while BP is more diverse.

I'm betting EM will be the short term winner because they are going after energy density.

Perhaps the risk of traveling the seaway is too great. LNG vessels have quite the explosive potential. I think risk assessments will keep them out to sea with a tightly controlled approach to terminal.

I think you are probably right. I am getting a little sensitive out here in "fly-over-land" as I pay more and more for fuel that arrives near the end of the pipeline. I don't have any personal interest, we use just a tad of propane for hot water, wood for heat and electric (for the stove).

I will shut up now unless I have something to contribute to the subject of the thread.
