I'd say July/August, as that's when all the Americans and Europeans fly and drive all over their respective continents for 'leisure'.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Bas', 'I')'d say July/August, as that's when all the Americans and Europeans fly and drive all over their respective continents for 'leisure'.

does this not prove that we still have not reached peak oil?

Sheesh! Are you paying attention to what other's are writing here? Peak Oil is not the point at which you personally are not able to fill up your chariot, it is the point of maximum crude oil or C&C extraction.

We are very near the historical record (so far) oil extraction rate, and it turns out that is enough for us first worlders to continue our profligate ways. However, many third worlders are unable to afford the near record prices. It might be too early to call peak though, let's see what OPEC says on 9/11/07.

Basically at world peak/plateau you can still have seasonal demand variation provided someone else takes an equal and opposite hit. When Americans go driving and Europeans go flying, someone else gets to walk. As time goes on, the ability of other countries to absorb shortages will diminish, and then it will be our turn. If you haven't noticed anything unusual, it means you are wealthy and don't read news.

What about Dec/Jan/Feb when half of America and half of europe burn thru heating oil & gas ? Northern US, where I live I burn thru more gallons of oil heating per winter than I use driving for a whole year.

In europe almost everybody uses natural gas for heating. I know that in America more people use heating oil, but I'm not sure what the percentage is, my guess is still quite low. So the highest demand for gas is definately in the winter, and I think oil demand is a bit higher than autumn/spring, but not summer.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('sirrom', 'a')lot of people in the third world have never been able to afford the things that we can

Actually they could afford the basics, and the basics included gasoline. Not all the third world is rows of tents with people starving. But increasingly they will be taking steps back.

Most people in the world do not own a car. In poor countries very few own a car. If they are relatively well of they can afford a daily bus ride.

Kerosene (I think it is also called paraffine in some places) for cooking is a necessity for most families in many poor countries. Also an oil product, of course.

Tuesdays, obviously.

With Solar Mondays and Wind Wednesdays, Petroleum Tuesdays just seemed to make sense.

Can't wait for Fusion Friday!
