Something is happening to the dollar today. Look at what is happening to the price of silver:

http://www.kitcosilver.com/charts.html

The price of oil is way up too, starting an hour or so ago:

http://www.321energy.com/

It has come down a bit, but what caused the spikes?

Was it the value of the dollar?

Gulp. I have some silver for sale for $20. I think I'll go and get it now. It's worth almost that now, and I have to give a commission to the store, so it's worth more to me than the money now.

We are entering a really scary world. What will a loaf of bread cost by midsummer? Heating oil next winter? Gas next week?

Working for the Bernanke peso...

Well, yeah, Rocc rocks fer sure, but we're going to drive the mods crazy with this thread having to change the title on a daily? basis. I like the "spend it now before it's worthless" meme, too.

The writing is on the wall here. The only question is how low do we go?

73.73. I can't even keep up. We're headed for that picture of the woman using her fiat for firestarter faster than I thought.

Okay been looking at this topic for awhile I get the lower the number is the less the dollars worth. I have two questions

1. Sadly, I'm not sure what is it this number represents

2. So at what value do we hit 1 dollar = 1 tissue

I will attempt to answer both your questions in one statement...

This number is an index of the value of the dollar guaged against a basket of other currencies (but I don't know the exact equation).

Anything below 80 is NOT good.

I have some old german stamps my Great Grandmother kept from her sister postercards from Germany, Most were originally printed with 5 marks but on top of that there are rubber stamps for 500 and on top of those some have 5000, etc. Does america got money for all those rubber stamps to correct the greenbacks?
