Although I understand his mood I think he is missing another point:

Yes, all these people "overspent", but out of the 2.2 Million people he seems to have as customers every year, how many would have been his customer if they wouldn't have overspent?

It's not as simple as he makes it out to be (though it doesn't change his bottom line).

Having lived in the US I think the problem is a rather simple one: There is an inherit inefficency in the way taxes are collected and distributed.

Why? Because the idea that the "Government is the enemy", especially the Federal one, every level of Government has the ability to raise taxes and money gets lost in the process.

I have seen payroll being done in the US and here in Canada (and Germany, but that was before they did some reforms) and the most mind boggling and complex one was the US one because of so many variables.

Having the numbers of levels of Government who can collect taxes reduced would probably go a huge way towards making it cheaper and easier to run a business.

I call hogwash on this story.

First of all, most of (if not all) of these unsourced, unverified internet letters that float around are all fake. These bogus Internet chain letters passed around by the Sheeple are one of my biggest pet peeves. Ugh I hate them, it's like people are so dumb they just believe some anonymous letter they get in their gmail -- then forward it to 100 friends.

But let's assume for the moment it's genuine. I'm sorry, I just don't feel sorry for this business owner. Overall, the US has the most favorable environment to employers in the Western industrialized world. I'm sorry Mr. Businessman, but if you can't make it here -- you honestly can't make it anywhere.

Do you know what the minimum wage is in Australia? It's about $13.50 US. Businesses in the US would howl and cry Armageddon if our minimum wage ever even approached that figure.

And yet, Australia seems to function just fine with a livable minimum wage. By some miracle, they still have restaurants, supermarkets and the like.

No, she/he is not missing the big picture.....she is ignoring it. Some buffoons can't not grasp the idea that the entrpreneur demands to be rewarded for his/her efforts and risk of "their" capital.

Some employees think the boss creates money out of thin air like the fed and busts his arse to give them a paycheck for which they are eternally not grateful. LOL

This chain story has been around for years. (Edited from time to time for current events.) This does not make mood/jist of the story less real.

Don't believe me, if you work in a small business, go ask your boss. If you are the boss............you understand it perfectly!

Can you provide a link to one older than November 17, 2008?

Thanks.

Again, I contend the American businessman has it easy. Go open a small business in France, you'll run home singing the praises of this country.

I agree....I did not not know you could even open a business in France. But isn't funny how our new government, under the divine leadership of "the one", strives to be more like that socialist utopia! ;)

While I agree with sixstrings, don't forget that French life expectancy and quality of life are both significantly better than in the US. Don't look at the world through an economic prism, that's how we got in this mess in the first place.

I work for a small business, and if I was suddenly fired without training my replacement, the business would become crippled within 2 weeks. The owner of the company makes about 20x what I earn working there. He does bust his ass and work every second of his life, but it pays off. Taxes may be too high, but he drives a Bentley while a lot of people working here drive a Corolla.

Taxes for all working-class individuals and business owners need to go down, along with the spending in all levels of government. Business owners are not alone in this.

I don't think I'd personally be willing to work for someone who drives a Bentley. :P

But then, I don't work for anyone but myself.

This letter is pure propaganda and not the least bit believable. Poor job of selling IMHO, whoever wrote it would not make the Joseph Goebbels "A" Team :-)

Here is a letter sent to me recently I thought I would share:

"Dear Brokers and Managers:

I know you have worked long and hard hours for the Dewey, Cheatham and Howe Hedge Fund. In founding this Hedge Fund, I slaved for hours hunting down the Low Hanging Fruit on Golf Courses from Palm Beach to St Petersburgh. All this damn regulation though is killing the business, and my latest text message from Vlad the Impaler has caused me to rethink the value of this company and my life. Since the company has no value, you all are fired, and since my life has no value, I'll be personally testing gravitational forces from the top of the George Washinton Bridge this evening."

Anyhow, whoever the turkey is that wrote the prior letter, I wish him all the best in moving his bizness to China to avoid the burdensome taxes he no doubt pays little of personally by writing off his jet and his limo as bizness expenses. In all likelihood, the Pigman who wrote the first letter is the same one who wrote the second one, so the likelihood would be that he won't be moving his bizness anywhere but to Hades, where he will find the Taxes are steep indeed. The Goobermint of Hell takes 100% taxes in burning flesh for all Eternity.

I wasn't criticizing the French way of doing things. Just pointing out how ludicrous it is for American business people to whine about taxation and over regulation. Lol!

My whole point is that civilized nations needn't have the level of insecurity and suffering we have in the US. France, with all its regulations, workers' benefits, and workers rights, STILL manages to have plenty of small and big businesses. I know, I've been there. It was actually pretty nice over there, hardly a wasteland bereft of private enterprise.

And again I point out Australia, which has a lifestyle very similar to the US. And yet they also have a livable minimum wage ($13.50 US) and universal healthcare.

I've been seeing "oh no, Socialism" articles cropping up since the inauguration. I wish! More likely Obama won't go far enough to the Left. But if we are headed for socialism, I'm all for it. I'm tired of seeing children go without basic healthcare in this country, etc. etc. etc.

And yes, I know we all think the whole civilized world is going to crash anyway and all that. But until that happens, why not join the rest of the civilized industrial world when it comes to workers' rights and basic human rights.

I moved my business from Australia to New Zealand because the difference in redtape was like night and day. Trying to get anything done in Oz or hire or fire anyone was insane. I never saw the minimum wages because I paid all my employees somewhat more than that.

But I would close or move because of retarded levels of government.

The tax system in the USA is geared towards big business, as is everything else. Impossibly complex multi-layer tax codes work in favour of the large status quo companies. Hardly moving towards socialism, the states are continuing on the path to facism.

Why does the left want to insert a giant insurance layer in healthcare? Now there will be no way to avoid giving money to people whose goal is to avoid helping you.

Health Insurance is also geared in favour of the corporations. If you switch jobs you probably end up switching healthcare providers, which means anything that went wrong healthwise at your last job is now a pre-existing condition.

The entire U.S. healthcare system is ass-backwards and evil. Obama has no intention of changing that.

My wife has been running a small business for 3 years now. Since the recession began people have been pounding her door down for business as she charges less than her competetion.

Watch what happens to the forturnes of all these spoiled rich brats, who were born into the capital that allowed them to start their businesses. The lucky who just happened to be in the right industry at the right time and made a killing. All these people will be undercut by desperate 'little people' who are all suddenly unemployed and now have to earn a living being self-employed, at lower wages than what the established market is willing to pay.

Or, the government will continue to print money like they are doing now, inflating the currency. This will cause the store of wealth, status and society will all be destroyed by inflation. So forget about the rich retiring on a beach, hyper-inflation will devalue their money just the same. Think of post world war one Germany- people hauling out a wheelbarrow full of cash to buy a loaf of bread.
