Lieberman Introduces Anti-WikiLeaks LegislationSenator Joseph Lieberman and other lawmakers on Thursday introduced legislation that would make it a federal crime for anyone to publish the name of a U.S. intelligence source, in a direct swipe at the secret-spilling website WikiLeaks. (snip)
The so-called SHIELD Act (Securing Human Intelligence and Enforcing Lawful Dissemination) would amend a section of the Espionage Act that already forbids publishing classified information on U.S. cryptographic secrets or overseas communications intelligence — i.e., wiretapping. The bill would extend that prohibition to information on HUMINT, human intelligence,
making it a crime to publish information “concerning the identity of a classified source or informant of an element of the intelligence community of the United States,” or “concerning the human intelligence activities of the United States or any foreign government” if such publication is prejudicial to U.S. interests.
Leaking such information in the first place is already a crime, so the measure is aimed squarely at publishers.(snip)
Lieberman’s proposed solution to WikiLeaks could have implications for journalists reporting on some of the more unsavory practices of the intelligence community. For example, former Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega was once a paid CIA asset. Would reporting that now be a crime? The SHIELD Act is co-sponsored by senators John Ensign (R-NV) and Scott Brown (R-MA).

"concerning the human intelligence activities of the United States or any foreign government." An internet forum is a form of publication -- so if this passes then conceivably, average folks could wind up in trouble just for talking about wikileaks.
Also, looks like Wikileaks is now gone for good in the US -- their domain name has been terminated:

WikiLeaks' main website could not be accessed on Friday through its WikiLeaks.org domain name after a subsidiary of Dynamic Network Services terminated its domain name service.
Dynamic Network Services' subsidiary, EveryDNS.net, terminated the WikiLeaks.org domain name because repeated DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks against WikiLeaks "have, and future attacks would, threaten the stability of the EveryDNS.net infrastructure, which enables access to almost 500,000 other websites," it said on its website.
EveryDNS.net said it notified WikiLeaks by email, Twitter and the chat function available through the WikiLeaks.org website that its domain name service would be terminated in 24-hours. That 24-hour period ended Dec. 2 at 10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time in the U.S.
(snip) The domain name service termination comes just days after Amazon Web Services stopped hosting WikiLeaks on its servers for breaking user rules saying that websites must use their own content and not carry data that might injure others. The U.S. Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, chaired by Senator Joe Lieberman, had also asked Amazon to stop hosting the controversial website.
