$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Shannymara', 'M')ine is the Hindu Goddess Kali. I identify with her and I think she is an apropos symbol for peak oil.

I've used the screen name kalima (KaliMa) for many years. I like Kali a lot.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('3aidlillahi', 'J')ust the Islamic creed (I believe there is no god but God...) written in the shape of a man praying.

That is very cool. I love how Arabic is used decoratively.

I got a book many years ago on teaching yourself Arabic, so I know the alphabet a bit. I'd like to learn more (if I ever got the time :( ).

I had this idea when I first came on here to put up a modified American Gothic avatar. While searching Google Images, I found this one, which I spruced up a bit. I think it pretty much says it all.

YOU ARE HERE!!!!

muahahaha

Liberally lifted from ASPO's work. The first version of the avatar had been colored but it got outdated (2004 base case) so I had to update it with the black-and-white version from their recent newsletters (2007 base case).

I use this avatar on other forums too, hence the OIL and TIME axes are for non-peakoilers to grasp the concept instantly.

Think you need to adjust that graph pretty soon now. Move that line a couple of mm to the right. :(

I'll do that later when ASPO updates the graph on their newsletter. The current line will do for the next few months at least, I think. Unless something drastic happens to the model, like, "everyone way over-estimated reserves earlier". Then you'll know we're in deep doo doo.

... well, if you do get the subtleties of this chart, you'll notice that it does depict the peaking of light, sweet crude. That's the bottom-most section. The other sections on top represent offshore and non-conventional crude, as well as gas (both conventional and non). In a few years' time, we would be peak everything - light, heavy oil, conventional, non-conventional gas.

And then the line will really move to the right ... :(

Too many people when confronted with hard information that would indicate PERHAPS that something is amiss or changing dramatically - that perhaps they will need to rethink their choices and way of life - reply with adament and optimistic assertions that technology will solve the problem, or "they would'nt let it get that bad" (whoever they is?!), blah blah blah....

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Micki', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('jupiters_release', '&')gt; Morihei Ueshiba "O Sensei" - greatest martial artist in known history.

Of the Japanese I would have thought Miyamoto Musashi was THE bad-ass.

Having the ability to forgo injuring or killing an opponent is extremely more complex. Superficially speaking sword kata is inherently limited relative to the potential of staff kata. Musashi's only draw was with an opponent wielding a jo staff, I'm sure if Musashi could've seen O Sensei's staff work even in his seventies, he would agree.

Musashi did however develop the two-sword fighting style and he did wack some guys just using wooden club. (From memory he made one from a boat oar whilst on the way to a sword duel on an island).

I got this from my copy of book of five rings.
In the same it was suggested that Musashi actually admitted defeat to the young man (monk was he?)with the staff. He had been badly hit in the stomach and anlthough he could have gone on and possibly even defeated the oponent, he reckoned that it was just pure luck and not his skill that had saved him and he technically therefore had been defeated.

Micki, I'm rarely if ever fazed by anything. Except big spiders running out at you at break neck speed. But I have to say that dog just freaks the crap out of me.

Edit
I remembered midgets (or vertically challenged people) freak me out as well. This list maybe edited when I recall things that freak me out. So yes I lied in my original statement.

Edit II
Another thing is when people ask you to try some food and offer it to you with a utensil they've been shoving in their mouth.

To understand Peak Oil is to be a doomer. I'm a hardcore doomer. The problems facing humans is a result of their population overshoot. There is no technical solution. We have long since passed the point of no return. Catabolic collapse and
dieoff will descend upon the world.

I thought The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse was appropriate, even though some might find it unsuitable for small children, pregnant women, the mentally disturbed, sufferers of heart conditions, and fans of Barbara Streisand.

The Four:

WHITE
Name: Conquest, also Strife, Antichrist, False Peace, Religious Deception
Rider: carries a bow with no arrows, and wears a crown (symbolizing a nonviolent rise to power)
Power: to Conquer
Contemporary Images: Iraq, Afganistan, GWB, close up photos of the Pope

RED or FIERY RED
Name: War
Rider: carries a sword
Power: "and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword" -Revelation 6:4
Contemporary Images: Iraq, Afganistan, GWB

BLACK
Name: Pestilence, also Famine, Disease
Rider: carries a balance
Power: famine, drought, plague
Contemporary Images: world food crisis, global warming, HIV, bird flu, mad cow, west nile

PALE, PALE GREEN or SAGE
Name: Death
Rider: Death
Power: "And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth." -Revelation 6:8

----
See Also: The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, Cocktail

2 shots blue curacao
4 shots orange juice
2 shots ouzo
8 shots lemonade
2 shots malibu
2 shots vodka
2 shots bacardi

mix the bicardi, vodka, malibu, and ouzo together with crushed ice cubes, shake for a minute, add the orange juice and mix. Cover the rim of a glass in water and roll in sugar. Pour the lemonade into the glass, then pour the liquor mixture in. When settled pour in the blue curacao- it should turn a blue green color.
Enjoy in good company.
