$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('SoothSayer', 'M')y wife made us move into the countryside because for some years she has suspected that the system will fail rapidly when it finally goes.
What a wonderful wife you have found!
The best advice I have come across regarding our predicament was at the bottom of an Earth Day presentation from last year by a scientist whose name I don't recall:
1. Don’t rely on the current economic system to
tell you when to change—overshoot is inherent
and is our current predicament.
2. Do the opposite of what the system rewards:
Localize (not globalize), Generalize (not
specialize), Ruralize (not urbanize), Conserve
(not consume).
3. Do this now, as a community, and your future
(and my cloud forests) will be more secure.
willjones4, you're right, you can't "stand down," and just climb back in to the bubble and pretend that everything is going swimmingly. Once you bust out of the consensus trance there's no going back. Your wife will eventually come around I would hope, and you may try to frame your preperations under general disaster planning...for earthquakes, hurricanes, terrorist attacks or whatever you think she might understand better.
Have you shown her "The End of Suburbia?"...I have found that is a very persuasive tool for describing the shituation we are faced with.
