$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Battle_Scarred_Galactico', '[')b]Hoarding canned soup is by far a better deal then hoarding gold.

This reminds me of a story of my grandfather's from WWI...His group was in the trenches with all the mud, and in the general wisdom of the army supplies department whole crate-fulls of jam were sent to the front. Far too many tins of jam to be used by the men, and without transport to send them back the men then used the excess to build temporary roads through the mud.

I am not sure what the moral of the story is, but it does show that tins can have a multitude of uses.
We should teach our children the 4-Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rejoice.

And yet somehow I expect Bill Gates will come out of peak oil better than the loner in his bunker with a wall of soup staring at him.
The oil barrel is half-full.

I think you can have a little of both, soup and gold, the shelf life of gold is a little better than the soup I think. If it goes back below $750, I will start buying it again, but that day will probably never come again.

Oh I am sure he will. He will also come out better than a loner in his bunker with two shining krugerrands (put them on the wall or eye-holes, doesnt matter).

Peak OIl may not come with a thump but creep on.
Inflation might be gradual but if you lose your job early in the event
you may also lose your house. Shelter is a fundermental and if it
is a house you may need the block of land to grow some vegetables.

If you lose your house you may end up in a dingy flat somewhere
any no opertunity to help yourself. The government would not be
able to help much either as iy will be overwhelmed.

If it happens suddenly the bank might be happy to let you babysit
the house if you have paid for most of it.
Remember the banks will be in trouble themselves with tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of loan defaulters.

For every defaulter there will be several very angry deposit holders
who will not be able to get their money back.

Not a pretty sight.
