hehe... you'll have to come up here and holmes and I will get you out on the trail. It's important to understand though that you don't go hiking with holmes. You just open the car door and let holmes go. Kind of like one of those wildlife documentaries where they let the animal out of the cage in the back of the truck.

heh heh, I'm glad you guys are my fellow Americans. Sure there's plenty of crap. But America lives! Who knows how it will all turn out. I could have kept up and surpassed Holmes when I was 22. I swam for four hours a day. Solid rock and total conditioning. Saturday morning pulse of 26 beats a minute. Not any more though. Time catches up with everyone.

U.S. consumer confidence index rises to highest since 9/11!!

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- U.S. consumers were more positive about the economy and their own finances in July than at any time since 9/11, the Conference Board reported Tuesday. The consumer confidence index rose to 112.6 from a revised 105.3, ahead of expectations of a gain to 106.0. The present situation index rose to 139.2 (also the highest since August 2001) from 129.9 in June, while the expectations index rose to 94.8 from 88.8. The improvement was largely due to fewer consumers expressing pessimism, but the number of optimists also grew. The percentage of consumers saying jobs are plentiful rose to 30.5% from 27.6%, while the number saying jobs are hard to get fell to 18.4% from 20.5%.

I guess record gasoline prices get a collective yawn form the masses.

Either that, or the ministry of propaganda is in full swing now.

It's all about the jobs. If you are feeling secure in your job, then other stuff matters very little. Why people feel secure I don't know.

Consumer confidence has always been a lagging indicator. I think it fits in perfectly with the things starting to happen in the markets right now.

Ding! When people are run ragged by their jobs and kids, they don't have time for much else. Prices don't matter. They need gas and food and will pay whatever it costs to get it. Additionally, people are stupid.

A thought about confidence

Postby Cid_Yama » Wed 10 Dec 2008, 18:58:56

You are constantly hearing the phrase, "when confidence returns to the markets."

One thing that is being overlooked is confidence may not return.

Those that went through the Great Depression never regained confidence. It took waiting for a new generation who had not experienced it for the market to return.
"For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth; to know the worst and provide for it." - Patrick Henry

The level of injustice and wrong you endure is directly determined by how much you quietly submit to. Even to the point of extinction.

A new bunch of suckers... People should really read a history book.
If the American people ever allow the banks to control issuance of their currency, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children will wake up homeless on the continent their fathers occupied. My Dad grew up in the GD, he is now a multi-millionaire but lives a VERY frugal lifestyle. We never had "extras" as kids. He has always said that "it can all be taken away at any time." Everyone in that Generation I speak has the same view. THey watched wealth evaporate and those in debt made into beggars. Won't get fooled again.
