$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('AlexdeLarge', '[')b]AP sources: Govt to suspend 'cash for clunkers'
http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D99P2U9G1&show_article=1

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')ASHINGTON (AP) - Congressional officials say the government plans to suspend the popular "cash for clunkers" program amid concerns it could quickly use up the $1 billion in rebates for new car purchases.

The dealers who sold cars under this plan are "suppose" to reimbursed by the goobermint. They may get stuck. No tears for government motors, but Honda, Toyota , Ford etc. may get screwed.

.gov did such a good job with this, so lets put them in charge of health care!! What could go wrong! ;)

We can hope! FSCK YOU CONGRESS! Nobody paid me to buy a new car or first time purchase a house! :-x :-x

Have any of y'all looked at those youtube clips??? They're really and truly reprehensible.

We're trashing perfectly good used cars - and to what end?

It's almost too much to watch, seeing the "mechanics" pour a saltwater and silica combination into the engine (after draining out all the oil) and running the engine hard until it seizes. The Volvo (a fairly new model) took a good four minutes before the engine seized up and caught fire.

Remember the original mantra (and motto) about recycling? Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without.

What has happened to us? Have we lost our collective minds that we're now destroying perfectly good cars? And to what end? So that we can be plunged deep into debt - like $20,000 or more - so that we can save $654 a year on gasoline (and pay more in insurance and personal property tax)? Here in Southeastern Virginia, the personal property tax on a new car will erase all of your gasoline savings each year.

Yeesh.

This is nuts.

Watch those videos (posted as youtube links above) and tell me that they don't make you CRINGE.

Why are they destroying what appears to be ok running cars for this progam???? Is there a stupulation that the engine has to be destroyed to get the $$$. Sounds like it would be more efficient to just auction it off to someone who needs it (poor college students, less $ fortuneate poeple). If your going to subsidize , then do that sh!t right! The volvo looked like a nice car, I would drive that anyday.

I read (oops, forgot where), that the mechanics/dealership can be subject to a heavy fine if they do not destroy the engines.

This is too sick for words.

I loathe waste.

Where are the older baby boomers (like me) who were raised by depression-era parents? Why isn't there an outrage over this waste? Has no one done the math on the environmental cost of trashing a perfectly good used car - for the purpose of raising the purported gas mileage from 18 mpg to 22 mpg?

Your truck also had to be licensed and insured for the past year to get the credit, you can not just pull one out of the back yard and take it to them, when I traded mine in I had to fill out a form and give copies of insurance and registration showing I own it and drove it for at least the past 12 months.

The sale person also told me that during this cash for clunkers offer other used car values are dropping because the dealer wants to use Fed money to buy the used not there money, if yours is worth more than $4500 for a trade in value they will probley not do the deal until money runs out or you just take a beating in trade in value,

Its ironic that people who may have had a shot at getting out of debt, ect. by driving an older car will be sucked back into a high car pmt, higher insurance, higher property taxes. ext. only to want a bailout when they can't pay the note anymore.... :-x I can see the milage issue if your driving a car extensively that is on deaths doorstep and getting 11 mpg or whatever. Rather than getting a new car, I would get a nice used one that gets better fuel economy ect.

I am sure someone on here knows the break even point for fuel/pollution saved vs. the resources needed to manufacture a new car.

Just another pork bellied policy put into effect with advertised good intentions.

Jeez, I didn't know that they had to destroy the trade ins engines.
How ridiculous!
That Volvo looked very nice, hardly a clunker.
Even that BMW ran for quite a while before it finally died. That's a good engine.
Couldn't they have been sold to wreckers for parts?

I see the cash for clunkers program as a 3 fold program, [1st] it helps remove older high mpg autos off the road and [2nd] gives a shot in the arm to the car dealers to sell more new autos and [3rd] states get more tax revenue at the same time.
I was already thinking of a newer truck before program so the $4500 I got just helped me decide faster and go for a brand new instead, I think this is the best bail out money being spent, or would you rather have the Fed send it to AIG so the top brass can have there 10 million dollar salaries.

Its insured but not licensed ( yeah I know, a strange combination) it runs ok but leaking oll heavily. The question is what do i do with a new truck ? I hadnt touch my old one since December or so. Can I sell the new one back to the dealer right away? Do I have to wait?

I'd rather have Government overseeing my Healthcare than some CEO who bends over for his shareholders.

Sorry, GMan has decided you are too old for health care. ( Got all those illegals to treat ya know!)
However, they do have you scheduled for a "end of life" conference conducted by an ACORN volunteer where you can discuss your death options. Cheers! ;)
