$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Aaron', '
')The folks I have labeled "expert" are among those from whom I have learned a great deal about this world we live in with their unique contributions of knowledge & reasoning... some over several years.

oh yeah... that reminds me... I think uNkNowN ElEmEnt deserves the expert tag.

Hmmm.

Technocracy

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')echnocracy (bureaucratic), a governmental or organizational system where decision makers are selected based upon how highly skilled and qualified they are, rather than how much political capital they hold

Meritocracy

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'M')eritocracy is a system of a government or another organization wherein appointments are made and responsibilities are given based on demonstrated ability (merit) and talent rather than by wealth (plutocracy), family connections (nepotism), class privilege, cronyism, popularity (as in democracy) or other historical determinants of social position and political power.

And I thought Peak Oil was supposed to be the 'great leveller'. Hmmmm....

Oh... it is.

PeakOil.com however is a technocracy in almost every way.

There is a 70% chance that will offend somebody, but thank HawkMan there's only a 10% chance of that.

Other Ranks are possible as well. I was recently considering a CryBaby rank for example...

Polarizing... isn't it?

Confirms the "rough & tumble" nature of this place in my eyes.

Man I really dig you people.

...in the good way.

I'm not trying to make PO history here, just acknowledging the significant contributions from members not always evident in post count stats. (which is automated of course)

Feel free to point out other members you think deserve expert labels... or those who don't. I acknowledge that this is an arbitrary & anecdotal value judgement, & thus of limited utility in some ways. But I also think some sort of recognition is appropriate for members who contribute above & beyond the average poster.

Could this bias new readers?

I sure hope so.

Who else have I missed in my exhaustive survey of thousands of members of years of posting?

Your criticisms are noted.

The experiment continues...

Aaron, you have incredible tolerance for critcism, including harsh criticism. I delight in the deft yet casual way you neutralize the worst vibes, and indeed turn them around.

I've learned from you too, especially in the emotional-control department.

Lots of opinions on this one. I, like most people, will pay more attention to the substance of the post than the label on the poster.

So, what the hell am I an "expert" in? Punctuation and spelling? Link posting? Snappy one-liners? Graphical chart posting? Pissing off NEOPO?

I can't think of one worthwhile thing that might have got me that stupid stripe.

lol

Because you have an insightful wit, and excellent command of the language, & you're as PO knowledgeable as any person I have known... that's why.

Svadharma - "Right" action per circumstance.

So sometimes, the "right" response is smiling sweetly, & sometimes it's murder & destruction.

Depends on the circumstance...

As soon as I began viewing things in this fashion as a conscious effort, it became much easier to tolerate many things.
