The NY car bombish was just about the right length to fit within the attention span of Americans, 50-something hours, Gulf War I was about the same, much longer than that and our eyes glaze. Not good for ad revenue.
The only story that holds our attention longer involves sex or someone famous or preferably both.
Blaming the MSM for talking about what we will listen to is like blaming politicians for demagoguery. Sure they're pandering but they deliver what we want or they wouldn't survive.
The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves -- in their separate, and individual capacities.
-- Abraham Lincoln, Fragment on Government (July 1, 1854)
