This article is right on the money on how I feel about tinfoil hattery. This quote in particular NAILS it:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')The problem with most conspiracy theories is that they are a mixture of faith-based cynicism and exceptional credulity when it comes to the theories themselves. They don't judge the theories by the same standards by which they ask you to judge the official version.

dude, people were making agreements between themselves against other people's interests since the beginning of speech aproximately, had never stopped since then and never will. To suggest otherwise is equal of doubting that water is wet.

I'm with you on this one. Peak oil only requires the ability to do arithmetic. Thinking the USA is responsible for 9/11 requires a leap of faith - a big one.

I mean by any other explanation but " a bunch of wahabist (I hesitate to even call them Muslim) whackjob sophomore college students who got really, really, lucky.

Always bet on stupidity. Theirs (general religious whack-jobness) and ours (airport security that can be beaten by a slow 6 year old) not to mention the amazing magic power of surprise.

The 7/7 bombings requires no leap of faith. They ran a drill on that day, as as they were running it magically it turned out to be real. Admitted by the media, but if you talk about it you are crazy.

Most people think peak oil is some kind of a conspiracy theory. It's hard to explain it in a way so they think it isn't some kind of a liberal plot to destroy their way of life.

Most people are very gullible. I don't give a hoot if Mos or anyone else wants to label me a Tinfoiler. I highly suspect anyone who does not think WTC7 was deliberately demolished and hence the whole story is sus. Refusing to look at evidence which contradicts your pre-judgement shows the limits of your mental capacity, not mine.
The fact that someone as generally sensible as Mos can buy into the official story shows the power weilded by TPTB is pervasive.
If you didn't want this to turn into another 9/11 thread, why not just stick it there?
Goebels was the 1st mega master brainwasher, using the power of the 1st serious public address amplification system. Being able to speak to up to a million people at a time was what brought Hitler to power. Unlike the radio, which was usually heard at home, mass rallies and PA systems had the advantage of group psychology.
As TV came into center stage as a brainwashing tool, during the 50's and 60's, it's subversion was as natural as Goebels'/ Hitler's 1st use of the PA.
The internet has created a much more complex environment for spinners.
Within hours of the WTC attacks the net had people raising questions about authenticity of the events. From that day, people have made their living continuing to spin the official story, out of necessity.
As Rupert Murdoch said, "He who controls the media and it's content, controls what people think and therefore how they will act."
This is exactly why various countries are in the process of setting up Chinese style internet firewalls, to attempt to gain control of the net before TV and newspapers lose brainwashing power status.
The fact is people are beginning to think for themselves and to do their own research. TPTB would prefer they just believed as they were told; like they did in the early Nuremberg rallies.
This is an often overlooked aspect of the evil done in those dark days.
Goebels should be remembered and his methods should be part of a sane persons reflections on MSM.
People like Mos should remember that 'Tinfoilers' like me are what stands between current reality and a re-emergence of totalitarian fascism.
I don't care if people don't believe what I say. Especially because really all I am saying is "Use your own brain."
If you don't want to or it hurts to think, take an asprin.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Revi', 'M')ost people think peak oil is some kind of a conspiracy theory. It's hard to explain it in a way so they think it isn't some kind of a liberal plot to destroy their way of life.

And thus an entire thread was started just to examine the idea why its credibility has been destroyed by the crackpottery so often associated with it, and ideas on how such things might change.

It turned into a thread arguing about the crackpottery itself of course, which wasn't a surprise.

I agree Mos, all the tinfoil out there is starting to get on my nerves. History channel seems to be producing a lot of these kinds of shows lately. Earlier I was watching some show, "Ancient Alien Astronauts" or some such. It was about how aliens gave ancient humans advanced tech, yadda yadda.

The whole thing was so preposterous I watched it a while just in dumbstruck amazement. They tried to claim that the Egyptians had lightbulbs because some hieroglyph sort of looked like one -- I mean come one, that's like finding the Virgin Mary in a random spread of cream cheese.

The "experts" on this show all had credentials like "Amazing Stories Editor" and such lol. They had only one skeptic on the show, and he got very little airtime compared to the 6 nuts they kept switching to.

And this History Channel program had not one real scientist or archeologist. I finally had to turn this trash off when they got around to ancient Greece and they tried to claim the Antikythera mechanism was of alien origin.

I wanted to cry at that point, it's so freaking sad how we're scrubbing the very real achievements of ancient peoples from our popular history. Fact is, the Greeks were DAMN SMART. Read some Plato, read Aristotle, learn about Archimedes -- these were brilliant men, regardless of how long ago they lived.

Great stuff.

But really, this is the biggest waste of a thread in quite some time.

Mos's incessant whining about people not unquestioningly accepting every official state sanctioned action and word as the god-given truth gets enough air time without a thread dedicated to it.
"The era of procrastination, of half-measures, of soothing and baffling expedients, of delays, is coming to a close. In its place we are entering a period of consequences…"

Mos didn't say anything about unquestioning anything or god-given truth, his comments don't waste a thread near as bad as incessant crackpot whining about the nonsense de jour, and "crackpot invasions" wreck orders of magnitude more threads than Mos ever has.

If that's what you want to believe. Whatever.

You don't seem (like your beloved article writer) to be able to separate healthy skepticism from idiotic belief in every crackpit theory bandied about by delusional paranoid psychotics.

For the record:

I don't believe the following:

Real alien abduction.

Real alien bodies and space ships hidden from the public.

Flying saucers / UFO's belonging to these aliens.

Worldwide collusion of the banking sector.

CIA Earthquakes and volcanoes or weather patterns.

Cave dwelling arabs doing 9/11.

Moon landings by Americans.

JFK being killed by LHO acting alone.

So if you want to pidgeon hole me with the space cadets simply because I don't trust your government at all, that is your doing.

Just go on with your theory that the big guys upstairs would never tell us a big lie.
