TrueKaiser is right, big differences. A rat thinks only of survival and procreation. Human thought includes those and desire, convienence, and time, just to name a few. We're actually at a disadvantage. Put 70 virgins at the finish line and you get suicide bombers, put a Rolls Royce and A-list status there and you get Western society. No electrodes needed.
Think of the last thing you wanted, not needed but wanted. A few hoops to jump through are considered life, no biggie. The wanted item already drives us, the direction is provided by our circumstances, and the end result is the same. The only difference between the rat and man is the illusion of free will. The rat was physically told what to do, we'll take the same journey sans wires. That may be the reason the simplest organisims have existed the longest. Complexity only leaves more room for failure.
