$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I')f I get sick with swine flu, I plan on going to a town hall meeting for health care, snorting a nice whiff of black pepper and sneezing on everyone.
If I get the flu, I plan on going to the local country club and coughing on the door handles of all the conservative cadillacs (the ones with the McCain / Bimbo bumper stickers).

So everyone gets scared and stays home, afraid to go to work. So the few of us who do go to work should demand a bonus.

This could be the govenments wet dream, a total collapse, and they can blame it all on the flu.

this morning a school nurse I know came into the produce department and said that three kids had tested positive for swine flu here at the Burnet Boys and Girls club, (Burnet, Texas) and there was talk now of a mass vaccination. She said herself and some others were refusing to give the shot, but some of the "old-school" nurses were for it (don't be late, vaccinate)

If things get bad as some say, I would expect panic buying first, to be followed by a plunge in consumer demand.

As many here may know, the amount of gasoline in the US above minimum operating requirements, is probably 20 million barrels at most. Therefore even a small buying panic could lead to gasoline shortages, which may lead to food shortages, etc.

Needless to say, the economy will not react well to this kind of stress.
It's already over, now it's just a matter of adjusting.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'U')S health officials said Tuesday they expect a large shortfall in swine flu vaccines, with only 45 million doses due to be ready in time for the start of a vaccination program mid-October.
AFP at Yahoo.

If you work that out, they expect to fully immunize the 160 million high-risk (of death or serious illness) people by about mid January. That's 45 million initial doses in mid-October, two doses per person, 20 million more doses per week. The two doses per person is still what they expect will be needed since this virus is so novel.

They expect about 40% of the population to become sick in the first season and about 40% of the workforce to be out at some point either sick or taking care of someone who is sick.

The only problem is that in the past flu pandemics, the worst of it was during mid-September to mid-December. So we get a month with kids in school but with no vaccinations. Oh, and they recently said that they want to avoid closing schools unless there are too few kids coming to bother. Stupidest thing I've heard in a long time. I'm very tempted to keep our kids at home and homeschool them for a few months.

I just finished John Barry's "The Great Influenza." Here's my worst-case prediction: by mid-October, when they start immunizing healthcare workers, we'll have 60% or so of hospital beds full, and all respirators in use. A month later, we'll have 110% of hospital beds full, and they will be turning people away. Just about every school in the country will have closed for some period of time. The third quarter GDP will show growth, but the fourth quarter will show a crushing return to recession. Mostly because we're too dumb to learn from the past.

I plan to eat an onion and a head of garlic everyday, half raw and another half cooked. At those amounts I literally can feel that stuff going through my veins.

That should keep all the infectious people far away, and the non-infectious, and your cat, and any cockroaches you might have around, and maybe even microbes. Nice plan!

My wife works in the hospital with the new babies, and they had a woman deliver a baby a couple days ago that came in sick. While in labor they figured out she had the swine flu. After the baby was bore they took the baby away quickly. All the doctors and nurses dids not know till later it was the swine. So they are all exposed. And supposedly the lady is not doing very well and is now sedated and intebated. Some Aunt that lives far away is being asked to come get the baby for now because the whole family is now getting sick. AAAHHHHHHHHH

According to Dutch epidimiologist Luc Bonneux there is no evidence that Oseltamivir [(Tamiflu)] has any effect to reduce the complications as a result of [Swine Flu].
