I can't find any info about it. Anyone know if it even happened? Or if it is going to happen today at 10? Hmm, big build up to talk in congress about Peak Oil, and then...nothing... :x

Did Congressman Bartlett speak as scheduled?

Unread postby NeoPeasant » Wed 20 Apr 2005, 11:57:53

According to EnergyBulletin.net Congressman Bartlett was to deliver another peak oil speech Tuesday Night on CSPAN. I don't have cable.

Did the speech occur? did anyone see it?

It started at about 8:45pm. I watched it as a stream from CSPAN; I wasn't sure if it was live or not.

Bartlett (with some help from another MD Rep, Wayne Gilchrest) gave a pretty good overview of what peak oil is and what's going to happen when it hits. He quoted a lot from Savinar's site and stressed that everyone has to act so as to avoid exacerbating the situation per Jevon's Paradox. He's more optimistic than I am; he seems to think that we can legislate our way out of this crash. In any case, it's heartening to know that SOMEONE in Congress cares about peak oil. He also said he doesn't know why peak oil is relegated to the "lunatic fringe"

That sounds like the presentation he gave on March 14th. Last night he was 'supposed' to speak about alternatives and solutions a little bit more (to my understanding).

I did not see Bartlette, but I *did* see Jay Inslee of Washington state on C-span give a very good presentation with graphs regarding co2 emissions and global warming. He did mentioned "oil peak". He said this will happen in 10 years. Still, he definitely said it.

Whoops, it probably was the March 14th presentation that I saw. He ended by saying that his next presentation would focus on fuel alternatives. I assume that's what yesterday's presentation was supposed to be on?

I watched the channel for a couple of hours; I may have missed it. I saw discussions about the coming pensions gap, and someone talking about evidence not pursued following the Oklahoma bombing.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('NeoPeasant', 'D')id the speech occur? did anyone see it?

Bartlett was scheduled to speak at 9 - 9:30 PM EST. At around 9:15 they began a series of presentations on social security, which they claimed would take one hour. So either the schedule changed or they were way, way behind. I gave up at some point and went to bed, but would still be interested in what Bartlett said, if he did...
