$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('mos6507', 'A') little tip for ya. They're worried about the depression. They aren't becoming peakers.
I think its a bit more than that; it is the depression, but they also idealize the past era with thoughts of strong, large ag families, wide open spaces, and pulling together as a national family (reality of that fictional past, notwithstanding). Then they see the reality of what could happen now, start doing a little guestimathimication and come to the conclusion, that if they lose their jobs in a new depression and can't find a new one, they are totally, and royally ********. All it takes is one little mental glimpse of a world where a can of tuna is considered a high luxury; and associating that glimpse with your own possible future to completely alter someone's frame of mind.
At least for a little while.
For the 50-70% who'll pass through this depression mostly unscathed, those that fall by the wayside will be conveniently categorized as "loafing, good for nuthin, free loaders.", while they tell romanticized stories of their own hardships, in an effort to make that sense of unease.. go away.
Then they will forget.
But the physical limit of production remains... the population is even higher... and the machinery to consume energy remains. Bird against the window.. sooner or later, all you have is a gory mess.
Yes, we are. As we are.
And so shall we remain; Until the end.
