$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he work is hard, but we're going to need 50 million new farmers soon.

According to who?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('SeaGypsy', 'T')he best thing about this is that you know. Ignore the naysayers like Outcast if you care as much as you say about survival. dieoff is coming; if we replicate what every other organism does in this situation most of us will be wiped out. If you want to be positivistic listen to Tanada and some of the other more enlightened utopians not the ones saying 'It's all goona be fine.' Science is the only way out of this mess and unforunately science is not gaining traction against the mud of the current paradigm.
I congratulate you on your courage and wherewithal.

Naysayers have a long history of being right when it comes to doom. Many of the doomer arguements are based on inaccurate projections and poor reasoning. Not like that stops the Cult of Peak Oil.

How much reading have you done outcast? This is not a doomsday cult it is rock hard unpopular science. Please don't be offended by my comment but the young man is looking for solid advice in a serious situation; telling him he's being illiogical is ill informed and confusing the facts with your choice to ignore them. (Unless you just don't know better) Read dieoff.org to get the science behind what is really going on. Terrible title but it's totally appropriate to the situation.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'C')all me crazy but I think this young woman would like her questions answered rather than having her thread hijacked by debating whether or not peak oil is real. There are other forums for that.

This thread is about someone planning ahead for the future, don't you think it would be important to have all the facts so she doesn't throw her life away?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'H')ow much reading have you done outcast?

Apparently more than you. What's your angle on pushing doomerism?

So Prophet Heinberg states that because of PO and declining fossil fuels, we suddenly can't farm with machines and fertilizer.........huh?

Obviously he never considered that we CAN have electric farm machinery, an idea that actually goes back to the mid to late 19th century.

We do have the ability to make fertilizer from other sources too

So that's one myth totally debunked, got anymore?

Are you trying to take JD's place here or what? You know as well as I do that this whole argument is as old as the hills and probably doesn't need to be rehashed yet again.

We have a new-ish person trying to make plans for the future. Nothing wrong with that, but quite frankly to say "head for the hills" based on some BS written by cranks like Heinburg isn't ethical (which is based on inaccurate info and bad reasoning which is quite easy to debunk). To plan ahead accurately one needs accurate estimations of what will happen, otherwise it is a waste, and I think she deserves better than that. Don't you?

Actually you make an excellent point here outcast; which I would like to add to. Go to you tube and look at gasifyers. With very basic welding skills and some scrap steel you can make a combustion engine run on almost any biomatter. This is a great skill to work on NOW I believe; as whether one takes an apocolyptic or utopian view of the future the ability to machine work will be highly regarded in a post oil world or locale.

He is a crank. There are many things wrong with his predictions that makes them so easy to pick apart, often usually with logic and just plain common sense. If that's the best the prophets have to offer what does that tell you about the rest of them, and PO doomsaying in general?

Ok OC please show us all here on peakoil.com all the 'Capitalist Utopian' prophets over the last 10 years who have turned out to be right?

Please stop this futile attempt to thwart logic; it's meaningless and people who are here are well past that stage generally. Or are you just trolling spam?
