The ads are Google Adsense, no?

That means Google will throw up a Chevy ad anywhere cars and trucks happen to be mentioned, etc. It's all automated, you see, and computers can't appreciate irony.

What's not to like about the Chevy Traverse?

It's roomy, stylish, and has America's top safety rating. The controls are phenomenal and it handles like a luxury sedan. You'll feel like Magellan plotting a course from the Sears parking lot to the Wal*Mart parking lot with the Chevy Traverse's state of the art navigational system.

Priced significantly below its competitors and with available zero percent financing, the Chevy Traverse is a real bargain in today's rocky economic climate. With seating for 8, the Traverse is perfect for the average soccer mom needing to transport her children and their friends to and from the big game.

If you don't have a Chevy Traverse yet, you should buy one. If you already have one, buy another. If you already have two, three's the charm.

Well, you are honest that's good, everyone indulges a little bit sometimes, I've taken road trips across Canada and the USA to see the national parks while they are still around, and I didn't feel guilty.

but, your picture is a sail powered ship are you into sailing?

No, when things require that kind of transportation change (ie fuel powered ships to wind powered ships) I plan on being nestled in southern New Mexico rather than near the coast.

The picture is the Black Pearl that was anchored where I live while they were filming for one of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. I just liked the picture. :)

My local Fox news station does this all the time. Almost on a nightly basis, they have a slot for some new invention or whatever that's basically a commercial for the product. The rest of the news is dedicated to covering crime, with a few odd stories sprinkled in.

At least, there was often a nugget of truth/fact in the past; seems like we are now seriously being weaned from any real news.

German Sprite Commercial?

Unread postby Carlhole » Tue 21 Jul 2009, 12:19:29

Dang$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'U')PDATE:--The New York Press reports that a New York City-based director was responsible for the now-infamous Sprite ad, and that the spot was produced without Sprite's permission. The ad is the work of Max Issacson, and was not produced in Germany, according to the NY Press.

The NY Press spoke to John Jones IV, the male model pictured in the video: "The funny thing is, it's a spec commercial--it's not even real," Jones said. Current TV initially reported that the ad had been banned from the air, for pretty obvious reasons. It combines oral sex and the desire for a refreshing Sprite to create a big finish that has to be seen to be believed.
Porn is so ubiquitous now. And so many people are so regularly exposed to it that it is bound to make its way into mainstream commercials and such. Seems like this director's shoot was just a wee bit premature (ahem).

Using the good name of the Amish to sell Chinese junk

Unread postby Sixstrings » Sun 17 Jan 2010, 12:41:51

Ah, I got stuck watching the "Amish Heat Surge" infomercial about a supposedly "miracle Amish invetnion," painstakingly handcrafted by the Amish.

This thing has been selling for a couple years now, so I finally googled up some info, and yup it's a scam:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'O')riginally, my skepticism was aroused by the portrayal of the Amish in the ads. Most Amish men where I live have long hair that looks like it was hacked off with sheep shears; the men in the Heat Surge ad have short, neatly cut hair. Most Amish don't use buttons; the men in the Heat Surge ad appear to wear button down shirts.

Eventually, I realized that whether the Amish in the ad were real or not was a peripheral issue. Apparently the Amish do make the mantles for these heaters, although the heaters themselves are made in China. Most likely, non-Amish people are used to portray the Amish in the ads.
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1410293/should_you_buy_the_amish_made_heat.html

The infomercial for this thing is a real hoot.. the Amish guy giving the sales pitch has a standard, slick advertising accent. Every Amish person I've met, and I mean every single one, has a very distinct accent. They're also not the kind of people who can give a slick advertising pitch.

So, this Amish "miracle heater" is just a sham on so many levels. They're paying some Amish guys to make the wood mantles, but never mention the heaters themselves (the part that really matters) are made in China.

From their website:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[')img]http://www.heatsurge.com/images/craft.jpg[/img]

The Amish are known for their kindness and humble pride in a job well done. They separate themselves from mainstream society and are recognized for their plain clothing, avoidance of modern conveniences, and superior craftsmanship.

Real Amish Craftsmanship goes into each mantle The Amish take extraordinary pride in their innate craftsmanship ability.
http://www.heatsurge.com/craftsmanship.cfm

Ok, so the Amish angle is a sham. But is the heater any good?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I')f you simply need a portable heater and don't care what it looks like, then you should forget the Heat Surge. According to the Heat Surge website, a Heat Surge fireplace will cost you between $298 and $348 to purchase, not including shipping. You can buy a portable 120 volt, 1500 watt electric heater at Wal-Mart or any big box store for under $20. And here is the important point that I am capitalizing for emphasis, A $20 ELECTRIC HEATER PUTS OUT AS MUCH HEAT AS THE $348 HEAT SURGE, AND THE HEAT SURGE COSTS AS MUCH TO RUN AS A $20 HEATER.
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1410293/should_you_buy_the_amish_made_heat.html

Oh boy, that's pretty rich.. slap "Amish" on your Chinese junk and charge $328 more for it!

Since the Amish don't watch TV, they probably aren't even aware of this.

(Or maybe I'm wrong and the Amish wouldn't care anyway -- they can be very astute businesspeople. But one thing they don't do is outright mislead and lie.)

I also read comments on this from people who've bought it.. the comments seem to break 3 negative to 1 positive. The happy customers say it works great (but they probably aren't aware they overpaid by $300 plus). The negative comments go on and on about how much their electric bill went up, also complaints about the cords getting dangerously hot, the Chinese-made heater breaking, etc.

Um, anyone who believes anything in an informercial is either recently from off-planet or must be retarded.

On a related note, every time I see something I know about advertised on a shopping channel as I change channels - it is overpriced and generally a low quality brand.

I guess the same folks buy such stuff as those who elect our leaders. :(

Another travesty is the food sold at "Amish Markets." I expected to see real canned goods and instead found MSG added, citric acid, various gums and all manner of chemical additives. I couldn't believe how adulterated the food was. Walmart has more pristine canned goods available.

We've had hundreds of heating customers that have purchased all different varieties of miracle heating solutions from Magic Heat reclaimers to light bulb powered furnaces. One of our customers bought 3 of these Amish Heaters.

They'd save much more money if they used the money to service their furnaces and boilers, or spent the money on window shrink wrap kits, weather stripping, caulk, rope caulk and expanding spray foam.

Using the Amish name to market cheap Chinese electric heaters is a brilliant marketing strategy.

The latest heating scam is the iHeater.

They're selling these things for over $300 and claim they'll heat 1,500 sq/ft.

We had a few customers that purchased these from traveling vendors.
