$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('LNC', '
')Anyway, I prefer to think about the worst outcome in which I have a reasonable chance of survival and a decent quality of life; thinking about doom scenarios is not very useful.

Well, you'll get all kinds here. The doomerest seem to have the most time for posting, while the folks who actually DO things only get to check in now and then. But this is a fun place, and it's run by a guy who is (from my childhood recollections) completely insane, but in a fun way.

I am of the "Move to a little place in the country and make your own way, while having a blast" school. So that's what I did, long before I even knew about PO, actually.

So welcome and have fun!

Hey Everybody

Postby LoneWolf79 » Tue 03 Mar 2009, 19:09:59

I've been browsing around this site for quite some time now and have only been peak oil aware for a couple of months. Anyway, thought I'd finally make my first post so here goes it!
I'd like to thank the people who run this site (despite the problems). You are doing a great service to the public. And although I haven't been spending too much time preparing for a post carbon world, I have been trying to spread some awareness around the issue. Hope this site gets working smooth again soon.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'L')earn to garden--in your yard, deck, or window sill if you must. Forget permaculture and the rest of that new-age voodoo. Learn to raise, slaughter, butcher livestock. Start with hamsters if need be.

Animals are too much work to be more than a small portion of one's sustenance, IMO. The whole point of permaculture is to minimize work. If you can get a few thousand calories from your land a week that's a good supplement, the idea of your average suburbanite becoming a full time rancher is ludicrous but anyone can start permaculture (which of course includes animal husbandry if one chooses that).

Welcome. Looks like you got kind of lost in the shuffle during all of the board changes. Look forward to hearing more from you in the future! I think being close to family is so important now. They are generally the last people to let you down in a real crunch. I'd move to the UK if I were you. Religious areas can be a turn off, but can also be a great driver of community feeling and support. Stay in touch.

Hi Franny.

I flashed on The Stand when I saw your handle.

Welcome.

Hello everyone

Great to be part of the forum. I don't really have a strong opinion about what the future holds. On the one hand, I see the rationale behind peak oil, but on the other hand, I think we're about to witness the "great reset" economically. How does one impact the other? I don't know, but I think we're basically witnessing peak oil and peak credit at the same time...not sure which will take a back seat.

Welcome...
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

Welcome...How did you find the site.

Most people happen across it when prices are high not when everyone has the impression the world is awash in oil.
How can Ludi spend 8-10 hrs/day on the internet and claim to be homesteading???

I have been a follower of Peak Oil for a while and a fan of Kunstler.

I have been to the site before but never realized it had a forum.

Why keep them out?
Surely you want to attract them.
