Only people with an income who qualify will be getting the new loans. But I guess if you prefer your neighborhood to be a ghost town, you should write to your reps to tell them to stop any legislation to help homeowners.

I didn't see the part where they're going to help first-time homebuyers - the ones who saw something this coming and have been waiting patiently for prices to cycle back down from unreasonably high levels so they can afford to buy responsibly. I'm sure it must be in there somewhere - they wouldn't make us folks pay to keep the prices up where we can't afford them. That wouldn't be right.

I guess I should be happy prices have come down as much as they have. If I'm lucky, this plan will fail. My opinion is that prices will have to come down to reflect more reasonable values eventually anyway, but this thing could delay it enough to screw folks like me pretty good, keeping home prices just out of range for who knows how much longer - if it succeeds.

Many "homeowners" want to keep prices high to retain or increase the "value" of their investment. It would be hard to convince these folks that falling home prices are beneficial.

I'm gonna say that, on reflection, that peanut gallery of guys who have been paid big bucks for years to shuffle other peoples' money around, badly, the architects of things like speculative commodity bubbles, aren't exactly the most sympathetic working Joes around.
