Have you met her parents yet? Remember, the reason many men choose dogs for companionship is they don't bring the in-laws over for dinner.

Good grief, RE, I just met her yesterday. Too early to meet the parents.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('WildRose', 'I') like dunewalker's suggestion of an outdoors date. It doesn't have to be really vigorous (like a hike), unless she's into that, of course. Even a good walk through a nice park or along a river bank? Then you could stop at a restaurant/lounge type of place (a little less formal) later in the evening (beating the Valentine's dinner rush).

Hubby and I had a great second date - a walk through a beautiful city park, late into the evening, plenty of good conversation sitting on a park bench, sharing our thoughts and experiences under the stars. It's still one of our favorite ways to spend time together.

Well that sounds great of course, WildRose, but I doubt if she trusts me enough yet to take her into a park. I could be a rapist or a Hannibal Lecter, for all she knows.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('blukatzen', 'I')'ve been reading this thread along (date part) and I am most thrilled for you! I think the situation is she may be a little nervous.

Let's put yourself in her place, being a Katrina implant. She's maybe (outside of work) not met many folks she'd be willing to befriend or met a few jerk guys here and there, and has resolved herself to a similar fate as you'd described for yourself.

I think if she's a built a little bit of winter weight on her bones, then a steady diet of walking, and gardening can get that weight off steadily (which is how it should be done anyways.) Just focus on her beautiful face!

Keep it simple, keep it "friendly", like you'd treat a special friend from here, or a valued co-worker, and see where it takes you.

If it isn't a "love match", it may be the start of a nice friendship, why put limiters on it right off the start? Friends are good too, and you had commented that you'd had none there either.

In the meantime, we're here for you, walking alongside. :)

Good luck with your new friend!

Blu

Thanks Blu, you are so sweet.

Overall I think she's a poor match for me.

I tried to post some replies to some other posts, but they just disappeared. Are other people having that problem with the redesigned website?

Too tired and disconsolate to try to regenerate them.

Just know, guys, that I appreciate everything you say.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ludi', 'O')h, ok. Well, I wouldn't know. :)

<<<<< married 17 years to my best friend ever. :)

My partner and I have a saying: "Friends first, lovers second."

If there is any secret to having a healthy, happy, long-term relationship, it's that. That's why doing "friends" stuff as opposed to actual "date" stuff isn't a bad way at all to get into a relationship. (In my opinion at least...lol.)

In any case, I wish you the best of luck to whatever pans out with this person. :)

Yeah. I guess I was envisioning an area where there are greater numbers of people around so that the lady feels safe. I certainly see your point.

Walking around in a touristy area or marketplace might be fun, more casual and relaxing. You'll think of something!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Heineken', 'T')hanks Blu, you are so sweet.

It's easy to be sweet to someone as nice as you are Heineken. There's a lot of folks here that genuinely like you, and want you to succeed. We WANT there to be successes in each other's lives here, we want to hear about the new babies, the new relationships, we share the sadness when some of us get canned, or divorced, or lose someone close like a parent, or partner. For better or worse here, we 've become a community of caring, loving people who "tune in" every day to our cyber community with as much care and affection as the community we share with our husbands, wives, and co-workers.That's saying something! It always fascinated me as to why more of us aren't meeting up with each other when we can, either travelling, or when we are in each other's cities. We really should.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'O')verall I think she's a poor match for me.

Reasons? Why? (you don't *have* to anwer if you don't want to.)

Well in that case I better shoot my mouth off ;) I took a vacation week right after my divorce was finalized and had a wild fling. Got most of it out of my system and dated a woman I had been chatting with for months. Due to health concerns have not been doing much of anything since Thanksgivings '08 but in retrospect that was probably a good thing. Now that I am six months past the divorce the wounds are mostly healed over and when I start looking for a relationship again I can do it from a better place.

My advice, see the woman a few times but don't rush into anything long term, especially as this is the first time you have dated in years. Sometimes I think they changed all the rules on me, or else I learned the wrong rules when I was younger, whatever. Take your time, have some fun, heal.

And yes the website has eaten a couple of my posts, but the old one used to do it to me too.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I') was disappointed overall because I'd been hoping, praying, for a stronger sense of connection.

On a first date I would try to temper this in your mind. It will effect your body language etc I would recommend to go there with NO expectation and with an image which you run through your mind prior to the date that you are meeting your BEST friend. Close your eyes and imagine how this would develop, and bring that emotion energy to the date. :-)

I couldn't agree more. In a way I think I was never truly friends with my ex. Because when we broke up I offered my continuing friendship, and it was rejected.

It's a nice idea but there aren't too many places like that around here. I did suggest to her that we "mall walk" on our next date, if there is one. (I hate malls, but there is one that's available nearby.)

Those are pretty extraordinary comments. I'm vibrating. :)

As you may or may not know, Blu, one of my several fantasies is that some large multiple of like-minded PO.com-ers chip in and buy a several-thousand-acre property and move there and form an IC.

This bad period for me will pass, I have faith in that.

Outdoors dates:

One of the best dating scenes I've ever enjoyed was in the Bay Area with the Sierra Club. The club organised friday night "Champagne hikes" just for singles every friday.

Every friday a group would meet at a trailhead, with packs carrying champagne bottles and champagne glasses (unbreakable lexan from REI, of course). We'd hike to a beautiful beach or an overlook and watch the ocean or the lights of San Francisco while doing a champagne taste test. After everybody was snoozled, we'd sober up while hiking back to the cars by headlamp and flashlight.

It was very easy to start a conversation ("here, try some of my Catalonian Champagne..") and easy to talk and to get to know people a little in a non-stressful setting when you are all sitting in a circle in on the ground drinking champagne after a nice hike.

Aahhhh....good times!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('uNkNowN ElEmEnt', 'D')id she get nervous after you told her she was gorgeous?

She acted embarrassed, Unknown, and looked down at the table.

Later in an e-mail she told me she has never thought of herself that way (as gorgeous).

Her e-mails are very brief and rather immature (full of "lols," etc.).

I'd post a photo but it's unethical.

I can't tell if she's overweight because of what she was wearing and because 99% of the brief time we were together was spent at a restaurant table.

She salted her food heavily and I kept wanting to tell her that was bad for her. She's the kind of person I just want to take under my wing and "shape." Not good, probably.

Meanwhile, I'm talking with another woman who lives a bit south of DC. Much farther away, but she seems more my type, even though she's not quite as pretty. She's very religious, and I've become OK with that.

Good advice, wise man. Heinie's listening and learning.

Time does heal most wounds, doesn't it? I'm already feeling considerably better about losing what I had. The pain comes more now from the void that has replaced it.

Oh, that sounds fabulous! If I were single, I'd definitely join in.

Seeing San Francisco is still on my short list of things I must do in my lifetime.
