Are you joking? Do you know how many people I saw in the ER in October of 2001 that were convinced they had anthrax?

I don't believe she said any such thing which you are implying and your reading comprehension was quite poor. Your sense of chronological events is flawed as well, since the Anthrax letters were mailed a full month after September 2001, and have nothing to do with 9/11.

Go read it again and give it another try.

People freaked out nation-wide. I had a nurse go into a frenzy because some Ibu came in the tube system outside of the normal packaging. 10 hospital security guards with their new hazardous materials masks holding up a ziplock bag with ibruprophren in it!

It would have been funny if I did not have to call up the friend who tubed it for me (I had a headache) so they could come identify it to vouch that it was not a dangerous substance... this in a building full of medical professionals... common sense took a vacation in the months after 9/11.

People with just an abnormally high level of anxiety that they could normally manage became psych inpatients. There was a lot of get people settled down and out the door. It was a lesson... I am not quite sure in what but it was a lesson.

I had an artist that was panicking because she found some strange white powder in her studio. Turned out to be plaster. People totally lost their minds for a couple of weeks.

and the DHS (or the Department of Israeli Homeland Security, because they don't have much to do with the safety of Americans) is there to - protect us, or to remind us to be afraid ?

specifically, to be afraid of Muslims.

Israel likes for Americans to share their antipathy for Muslims.

to quote Netanyahu, "now every American is an Israeli" (sept. 14, 2001).

to quote the 5 Israeli gents found celebrating 9-11 on 9-11 in Bergen New Jersey, "Yeeeehaaaaw !"

i would say most Americans have demonstrated symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome since 9-11. one of the symptoms of PTSD is, a small incident is enough to bring back a huge disproportionate emotional (fear) response.

so an incident like the July 7, 2005 subway/ bus bombings are enough to make many Americans VERY AFRAID again.

So DHS just spent a butt load of money finding out what normal people pretty much refer to as "The Herd Mentality". I mean come on!!

I don't think so... just that sections of the general population are more open to suggestion than is generally actualized. In another time they would have been accusing a widow living next door of being a witch; then they thought they had anthrax or just became unable to function due to anxiety.
