Israel just needs to flatten the place. Get it over with once-and-for-all.
Actually, if you go back to the 1940's the Palestinians were peaceful farmers.
In the late 1940's they were invaded by by a well armed and financed gang of ruthless, brutal, murderous religious fanatics known as "Zionists".
The Zionists murdered British Mandate peacekeepers and UN diplomats. They systematically slaughtered Palestinian civilians, often burning villages with their inhabitants inside, in order to terrorize them into fleeing so Jews could steal their property.
Basically the same as their recent atrocities in Gaza.
God is your history a bit poor. Jews began to settle in the Ottoman region of Palestine in the late 1890s onwards. There was an already existing Jewish Arab population. Jews were buying up land from Arab Muslim land owners, aiming to return home to 'Zion'. This stirred up a lot of resentment in the Arab Palestinians who worked on the land. In 1920, after the British took control of the region as spoils of WWI widespread riots and violence took place in Palestine aimed at the Jews. Most of the early settlers were rather misty eyed socialists who had some rather noble dreams that they did not put into practice in reality. At this time there was even the Faisal-Weitzman accord between a local Arab prince and the Zionist movement to encourage Jewish immigration to the region and the establishment of a Jewish homeland.
Through the 20s and 30s Jew migrated to Palestine in modest numbers but there were a steady stream of atrocities on both sides with the British as hapless occupiers failing to stem the tide of immigrants or violence. But very little of the land that was taken up to 1947 was acquired in illegitimate means.
In the final years up to WWII the British authorities placed very strong limitations on Jewish immigration and regularly sent ships back to Europe. I’m sure Keith McClary is delighted by the fate of those on those ships.
After WWII, the UN agreed to the establishment of a Jewish homeland, with the Soviets supporting it as they assumed it would be a communist state (many Zionists were socialists or communists) and they seen it as a bridgehead into the region.
The original UN idea was for a sort of two state apartheid system of Jewish and Arab Muslim 'bantustans' governed by their respective governments. However on the day Israel was formally created it was invaded by Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Egypt. These states were vastly better armed than the nascent Israel. And in Jordan’s case they were lead by British generals.
It is at this point where history becomes both murky and brutal, out gunned and outnumbered the Israelis successfully fought of the invaders and drove them out of a large part of Palestine, only the West Bank and Gaza were held by Arab armies. This is where the Nabka happened, there is a lot of conflicting accounts but many Arabs were forced off of their land and there were widespread massacres.
700 000 Arabs left the area with the alleged encouragement of the neighboring states who intended to re-conquer the land and settle the people back onto it. This obviously never happened and all except Jordan refused to allow the Palestinians out of the refugee camps since.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I')n the late 1940's they were invaded by by a well armed and financed gang of ruthless, brutal, murderous religious fanatics known as "Zionists".
This statement must be close to one of the wrongest statements on this forum. For a start most Zionists were secular and often atheists. A Zionist is a follower of a political ideology that means someone who wants a Jewish homeland. You are confusing Zionists with the Stern and Irgun terror groups, a small disaffected group of terrorists who committed most of the atrocities including the King David Hotel bombing. The Hagana (the Jewish self defense force) did commit some atrocities but no worse than those committed by Arab armies during the same period.
What really pisses me off about people like Keith McClary is that they make it so easy for apologists for the current Israeli action to paint opposition to Israel as anti-Semitic in origin. His blatantly wrong and decidedly dodgy ranting are so easily dismembered by simple using Google. Deliberately provocative language like his when so factually wrong certainly looks like it hides a darker agenda.
