Salmonella is a bird disease, mostly. How it got into peanut butter I don't even want to know ... [smilie=icon_confused.gif]

Is the "reputable" story any more or less believable than the paranoid fantasy?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[')b]FDA: Peanut processor found salmonella, shipped anyway

By Elizabeth Weise and Julie Schmit
USA Today
January 28, 2009

The government Tuesday accused the peanut butter manufacturer tied to a nationwide salmonella outbreak of shipping products in 2007 and 2008 after internal tests found bacterial contamination, violating food safety regulations.

People's immune systems are so f*cked up these days how many don't already have nut allergies? Thankfully my daughter doesn't, but she's not allowed to bring PB&J to school which is seriously messed up.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('bratticus', '
')How believable is this scenario:

1. People start hoarding peanut butter due to economic conditions.
2. Inventory data indicates a run on peanut butter
3. Agents are dispatched to insert salmonella bacteria into the peanut butter supply in order to persuade consumers to diversify their diet (i.e. buy more expensive protein sources.)

PSST-ASK A NIGERIAN.
If you give a man a fish you will have kept him from hunger for a day. If you teach a man to fish he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

I'll be in real trouble if they put salmonella in beer.

I've owned my peanut butter for about a year though, so mine is safe.

Rumor has it that the navy was using the Georgia plant to manufacture and test special peanut butter biofuel for the S.S. Jimmy Carter.
