$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('notill', 'U')nfortunately I don't have a link,
Calif. is projecting a 40+ billion dollar deficit over the next 18 months, and are planning to begin issuing iou's for some obligations feb.1. They claim to be the worlds eight largest economy.
This wouldn't be too noteworthy except for the "drought" facing the southwest US. As the theory goes, the southwest has been in an unusually wet 100 year period allowing the big population centers like LA, Phoenix and agriculture, Calif.s #1 industry, to establish. We're now entering a drying period, which is forecast to be amplified in this region by global climate change.
Interestingly, not long ago (a week or so) the state legistlature in AZ was talking about being broke by Feb 2009. I imagine water and energy are no small part of this mess.
Additionally, our water company has started to act like their billing department is run by schizoid crack addicts. So much that there is a class action lawsuit against them. My relatives work for another water company in the state and they are having trouble staying in business.
Yes, the southwest is screwed. Big time.
