$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Tyler_JC', 'A')nd if you think Obama is doing a bad job in 2016, vote for his opponent.
As for the Japanese internment during world war two, that was a serious violation of civil rights but was not directly linked to FDR's third term.
If Wendell Willkie had won the election in 1940, who knows how he would have handled the war and its domestic impacts. He might have felt that interning the Japanese was a good idea.
and he might have rounded up old women and shot them in the street. Might of is not an argument. Who would the dems have put up if FDR had followed tradition and not sought a third term?
After FDR somber minds came together and said, "We need to make an amendment to the constitution to make sure this does not happen again." It first applied to Eisenhower which, although I am not familar with the details of how the amendment was passed, means that it got a lot of Democratic support. Even FDR's biggest fans, his own party, got on board. They all looked back and said, "We got out of this ok but it is a bad precedent and the power of the presidency needs to be restricted by restricting the office holder to two terms.
And I agree with them.
