Monkey War!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')eighing only 3 to 8 pounds with tiny humanlike hands and puzzle-solving skills, Truelove said it could unlock doors, search buildings and find suicide victims on command. Dressed in a Kevlar vest, video camera and two-way radio, the small monkey would be able to get into places no officer or robot could go.

The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '"')It would change the way we do business."

Really?

All kiding aside, sounds expensive but useful...and I don't buy the line:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')ruelove hopes the same training could prepare a monkey for special-ops intelligence.

If they were/are useful, they were/are either tested or used. (like Dolphins for the navy and harbor protection etc.)

It's not a novel science...it's Monkies for "nobodys" sake.

Sounds like a slow news day...

Actually, my mother did have a monkey butler of sorts :). My birth mother (step mom and dad have been married 31 years), was left disabled (quadraplegic) due to a stroke at a only 32 years of age. She was given, by a local rehabilitation agency, a trained monkey. Much like a seeing eye dog, except that this monkey could do things like get her cup for her when she needed a drink, change tv stations etc. She lived in handicapped housing and had nurses aides who checked on her several times a day, but the monkey was there all the time. Mama did have use of one arm with which she typed messages (and wrote a book!) on an electric typewriter...anyway I digress. But it can be done :).

Sounds like a potentially viable idea that ought to be tried. Though, there is an ethical issue about sending a clearly conscious/sentient animal into situations where it might get blown up. If that monkey has the intelligence of a 3-year-old human, would you send a 3-year-old into a place where it might get blown up?

That being said, it may be that these monkeys can be trained to perform lifesaving tasks such as anti-terrorist reconnaissance in hostage crises, where they are perhaps at risk but not facing certain death or dismemberment.

As for intel-related tasks: I can think of some areas in which monkeys could potentially be useful for intel collection, but I'm not going to speculate here, because I've accidentally hit on classified stuff in the past and don't want to repeat that mistake in a public place. Suffice to say that it's not as far-fetched as it sounds on the surface.

It was a picture in search of a thread.

And I really, really hate monkeys.

They all need to die... or at least come within 2000 miles of me and my progeny for all generations...

but I would prefer it if they were dead.... they are evil.

Before you go to an effort to wipe them all out you should be aware that they are an excellent source of Xenoplasty tissues for transplantation. Especially note that Baboon hearts and livers make excellent substitutes for humans with damaged ones, especially when the damage is caused by an infectious disease. If a human has Hepatitus C if will kill their liver and any human transplant they get, but a xenoplasty transplant is immune to Hep C. Prevent rejection and you have the cure for Hep C.
