The promise of more energy bringing about a better future is constantly proven wrong.

The more energy this civilization has, the more destruction it causes, both to humans and non-humans. The message is always that we are living this horrific lifestyle ONLY because we're "on the way" to some glorious, ethical, clean, futuristic, everyone's happy in floating cities with green grass and communicating with animals telepathically who are all happy... with robots roving around picking up our garbage, and everyone's sh**t don't stink. And once we're there we'll turn around and benevolently undo all our mistakes made in our "dark ages" of the present when we went about screwing up the planet.

It disgusts me.
