$200. oil isn't a matter of if but when as my investment adviser said. It all seemed so perfectly logical only 4 short months ago. It's pretty obvious nobody has a clue what happens next but everybody certainly has a opinion. Well, here's mine: with continued and accelerating demand destruction as we head into a major depression and a stronger dollar oil is going down for the foreseeable future. When deflation runs its course the hyperinflation phase kicks in. With a crashing dollar and phase II of PO oil goes explosively higher hopefully before my options expire.

Funny thread for sure.

Oil was supposed to be $200/BO by now....what the heck happened?

I wonder if BHO is still going to try to get a Windfall "Profits" Tax passed like he promised. How about a Windfall Losses Refund? That would only be fair wouldn't it? If you bought some production based on $100 oil it would only be right to get some kind of refund for the loss. :P

Peak oil happened. Haven't you NOTICED!!!

Apparently, it caused people to buy houses they couldn't afford, which when they defaulted on, caused a financial crisis.

Amazing the way this stuff works...but apparently a side effect of it is that when people don't want oil, the price goes down no matter what the actual supply situation is like.

I'm getting a Hummer before GM goes under and sells the brand to the Chinese.

Peak oil obviously is not the cause of this economic disaster.

Actually, I will make a prediction. Have you noticed a certain trend about the largest corporations? They are getting in trouble, and it's going from mortgage industry, to insurance (AIG), to investment banking, to commercial banking, and now the auto industry. What do they all have in common? They are all merging, selling themselves or looking for bailouts. The bailout is the interesting part because once the government bails out an institution, that institution de facto becomes government owned (indirectly).

Peak oil is not really going on. What's going on is a massive corporate restructuring, with the Fed and the U.S. Treasury at the top of the pyramid.

Next in line are the retailers, oil companies, and pharmaceutical companies. I believe that oil will get extremely low, on the order of $20, and the oil companies will then need bailouts.

It's a giant ponzi scheme to basically incorporate all of the American industry under one umbrella. The trend speaks for itself, and it doesn't look like it's reversing.

Oil went below $49 today. If it goes much lower than I think that is enough evidence that peak oil is nothing more than a tunnel-vision myth.

I would have thought that years past peak oil, a 66% drop in price in just a couple of months would have already done that?

There will never be a bailout of the oil companies. It would be political suicide. They already let most of our domestic industry go out of business in the 80's and 90's so I don't know why this would be any different if it gets that bad.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Bas', '[')i]if we ever see $70 again (which I highly doubt)due to demand destruction it will never be for long as supply decline will force the prices right upto where sustained demand destruction takes place, and that probably can only occur with an ever increasing price.

IOW I believe that Petak's models are outdated and are based, probably, on growing supply.

well all it took was a little deflation

I've prepped, but the premise was not 'peak oil'. Who gives a fuuck what your tag-line is?

I hope people that decide to investigate 'peak oil' don't read posts similar to yours.

Sir- you are the one saying that Peak Oil is a myth...do you truly believe that oil production will not peak within the next decade (or has not already peaked?) What aspect of Peak Oil is a myth to you?
