$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ayoob', 'I')'m looking at picking one up right now. It's useful for hauling stuff, towing trailers, etc. Why the hate?
If I end up using it inefficiently, maybe to take my kids to soccer practice, why do you have a problem with that? If I can afford the gas and that's what I want to do, why should you or anyone else say I can't do as I please?
Some people take vacations in Hawaii... do you have a problem with that? They don't NEED to go, they just want to. I'm not entirely sure that anyone needs to make more than $30K a year... should we shut down anyone who makes more? Nobody really NEEDS a computer to post on message boards, right?
I dislike that they became a fashion statement. Some people can genuinely use a large vehicle with little seating. Most don't need one, and I hate seeing all the gas wasted on daily commutes while the Hummers and Expeditions idle in stop & go.
I dislike that they are marketed as the "safe choice", especially to women and mothers. I've read many people say they bought an SUV "for the children" because they're safe. Well, they may be safer if you run into a tree or another SUV than if you were driving a small econo-box, but they're much more prone to rollover than the econo-box, and they're not nearly as nimble to avoid an accident.
I dislike that they're so frigging huge. They blind you at night if you're in a smaller vehicle. They're hard to see around if you're behind one. They more than fill your average parking lot space, so it's hard to get back into your car if one parks next to yours.
It's not that I think they ought to be illegal. I just wish people made more sensible choices. There are plenty of fine vehicles to buy that are better commuters, family vehicles, etc.
