Theres no way this is the best Star Wars film. Its just the best of a trilogy will be remembered as being quite inferior to the original trilogy.

Do I need to see Ep II before III? I really don't want to sully my mind with another inferior movie like Ep I.

If there is a deep political meaning behind the movies, its been well hidden by glossy SFX, cheesy dialog, cliche characters, muppets(?!) and the Star Wars Kids! version. It is clever putting trailers for the console game into the movie.

Its pure Sci-fi, not SF. SF takes some new angle, and says "what if?". SW has all the old angles translated to a different time. The clue is in the intro "a long time ago.." It is an old story the Greeks would have understood. Is there really any part of the plot that could not have been set in the 20th century? I suppose it would be impossible to portray a US president as head of an evil empire, but that would make a powerful contemporary movie.

As a re-working of good, evil and the abuse of power its great though. It's High Noon in space. White hats versus the black hats. Here come the Cavalry. And Alec Guinness. He would never have done a Western!
It's all downhill from here

I just came back to see it with my son, woa! It's really good, I had no expecations and I was really surprised! the first two were really lame compared to this one!

A good dramatic story that's what was missing before.

I may go back to see it a second time!

ROTJ is the weakest of the original trilogy IMO. New Hope and Empire are excellent. :)

I've seen better romance acting in porno movies. The whole Anakin&Padme thing was completely unconvincing, and as such, the lengths that Anakin supposedly went to supposedly for her were meaningless. That alone basically ruined the movie.

As for the force powering technology, the force is meant to be energy from living beings. I don't think there are enough living beings in the universe to power the skyways of Coruscant. It'd have to be based around commercialised mass-produced fusion if you were to look beyond the fiction/fantasy aspect and into a scientific/sci-fi aspect.

Quotes from the movie --

"Hold me like when we were on the shores of Naboo !!" - Padme

"Padme, you know I can't live without you !" - Anakin

Yes MrPC, you are absolutely right about the terrible love thing going on between Anakin & Padme. But an ass-whuppin' Yoda made up for it. (Although I was kind of pissed they had to killed that blue alien Jedi superbabe. She could play mind tricks with me any day of the week.)

The tragic irony of the film is what got me.

Annakin forsees Padme's death and will do anything to stop it. Goes over to the dark side and that breaks her heart and kills her. A plot worthy of Shakespeare in Romeo and Juliet.

I can't stop crying

Yes and killing off that Blue babe super jedi was even more tragic.

The lack of singing Teddy bears sold me.

Although I do still think Lucas messed up by not continuing the legacy of A New Hope by casting well known dramatic actors in critical roles, mixed with unknowns.

Gave it a more empire kind of feel to have Alec Guinness & Peter Cushing.
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

I agree. Besides, I don't think Lucas is very good at directing actors.

Is there anyone else who finds this MTV style hyper-editing of rapid-fire scenes irritating? Any given 5 seconds has 10 scene shifts. The movie was so comic bookish and silly that I went and got my money back.

Fun. His music has so permeated our modern pop culture that few realize that he is also a serious composer of what will be considered "classical" works in the future.

OK, Jason the Doomer. We'll still have a wind up Victrola in our ramshackle tent in the refuge camp. We'll huddle around it and our meager fire; trying to stay warm, listening to John Williams and dreaming of the Golden Era.

Well, we've got crank radios at present. Maybe someone clever will come up with a manual crank CD player. We'd be saved!

Jason, I think those "giant cockroaches" only live in your head. (hmmm, how did they get in there? :) )
