"Peak oil" Dream interpretation

Unread postby Rod_Cloutier » Sat 25 Oct 2008, 11:12:10

I have set "Peakoil.com" as my homepage for the last 5 years and I read it everyday. I read the news articles and actively participate in the forums. Every night I have terrible nightmares.

I thought I should created a forum topic where other people in a similar situation could go to get the interpretation of their 'peak oil' dreams.

I will start this out with a nightmare I had the other night:

"I found myself in a game show. The game show was set up that the contestant would get a mystery prize for impersonating a famous person onstage. The game show would help by providing props and costumes. The selection was determined by a hat draw. ie you put your hand in a hat and drew out a name of a famous person you had to impersonate to win the prize.

When it came my turn to pick a name out of the hat -the name I got was 'Jesus Christ', so the game show pulled out the costume of Jesus which I adoned, then they set up a huge wooden cross on the stage and were about to hammer nails through my limbs when I chickened out. I didn't get the mystery prize."

This is only one example of the night terrors I experiance as a result of reading "peakoil.com" everyday. I would be interested in others interpretations. Also for others to share their 'peakoil.com' related nightmares! (I'm not joking)

Repent, no interpretation, just ask your doctor to increase your Seroquel dose. Perhaps that handful of Prozac before bed was not a good idea.

Are you sure it's a result of reading PO.com? Have you tried taking a break from PO.com to see if the bad dreams continue?

I'm not mocking you. I also read here almost every day & I can't remember when I had a bad dream. I also know people who regularly have bad dreams but are absolutely clueless about PO or even the imminent financial disaster we're all facing right now.

I googled around and found this guide to dream interpretation.

If you pay attention enough attention and write down every remembered detail (or on cassette) after a while you will start being lucid in your dreams, knowing you are dreaming, while you are dreaming. Then you can play around with what is happening in the dream. In psychological terms this helps you get hold of your "shadow" or fears.

I've had some wierd dreams also. I don't think it's Peak Oil related. The whole society is experiencing a bad dream. I can get just as scared reading the regular news than I can here at PO.

It might be in the collective subconcious now, and you pick up on it. There is a recession/depression coming and we can smell it now. It's bound to get into your head too.

Christ was a prophet who had some things to say that brought him into conflict with the rest of his society. The message of peak oil isn't very popular.

Maybe you identify with him.

I don't think I've ever had an oil dream. Usually I dream about my high school days, having sex but not enjoying it, or being humiliated.

And ya practicing lucid dreaming can be a good (and fun) way to cope with bad dreams. Some people do it easily, for some it's almost impossible. I'm in the latter category so I gave up after a while.

Since the mid 70s I've had a recurring dream in which I go somewhere, work/school/store, and I have forgotten to put on pants.

Since the mid 80s, I have apocalypse dreams, nukes, mushroom clouds, complete with heat, blast and radiation effects, in proper sequence. Usually in these dreams I am wearing pants.

I often have dreams in which I'm outdoors amid nasty weather conditions (e.g., snowstorm) but I'm not wearing shoes, either because I forgot to wear them, or because some intervening force had deprived me of them. Very stressful.

I had a dream last Thursday night that the stock market had collapsed. No, not the 40% setback we've recently witnessed, but an honest to goodness collapse. The closing DOW in this dream was 829. I still remember the 829 number.

In my dream there were no index speed bumps ... it just went straight down from 8,000 starting at 2pm.

Groups of people were immediately forming in cities across the USA. Factories and large businesses were closing. It was fast becoming too dangerous to travel anywhere by car, foot or bike.

That's about all I can remember, except the number: 829.

I thought I should post and record of this dream in case it happens. I had a similar one many months ago which I posted somewhere in this section.

I had another nightmare last night.

"I was living in the 'post' peak oil future 5 years from now. I had to walk everywhere as nobody drove cars anymore and public transit had collapsed with everything else. I was walking in downtown Winnipeg, (unusual in itself as no one goes downtown anymore- there's no parking), I was walking by and thru abandoned buildings and shops. Scavenging.

A man suddenly approached me and asked me if I wanted to help with the situation with whatever money I had left. I gave him a firm no. Then I saw the man ask others on the same street the same question and they were all saying yes. They were going underground to a small room where they were giving their money away. Then the story was on the tv news (apparently post peakers can't kick the tv habit), about people who were donating the last of their money to build climbling structures and playgrounds for the youngest of children- who are not to blame for what we have done to the economy and the planet. The tv announcer was also forcasting a strong economic recovery and a return to 'business as usual' as if the 5 year depression had not dampened expectations that 'things will soon return to normal'.

Then I was sick to my stomach- I had said no to a charitable act for young kids and I didn't even know it. It is easy to say no to something, but much harder to say yes. Then it turned out that the man who had stopped and asked me to give the remainder of my money away was 'Jesus' in his second comming, and I was the only person to fail this test of character."

Wow- that nightmare was awful!

.
Well, Repent, sounds like your religious indoctrination has permeated your dreams.
Whatever.
.
I don't have nightmares, but my dreams do seem to have a post petroleum feel.
Typical:
I'm in a vast subterainian industrial wasteland infused with the acidic glow of sodium vapor lights, although I see no source for this light.
I am carrying a small tadpole cupped in the palm of my hand in about a teaspoon of water. I am looking for a place to release the tadpole.
All I can find is a lake of rusty water devoid of any life.
There is a bombed out basement of a building visible. It is full of evenly spaced sleeping ballerinas.
I enter the next building and accidently drop the tadpole. It is extremely slick and delicate, and I am having a hard time trying to pick it back up without hurting it.

And:
I see dozens of coyotes running along power lines and living in transformers.
Those are typical.
Peak oil dreams? Or just a collage of the daily detritus floating in my head ? I really enjoy most of my dreams and they are not a source of anxiety for me.

I had two dreams recently where I was trying to lead a resistance group to overthrow a totalitarian government. I don't remember the details now, but it was so vivid that I woke up afterwards.

I've been having a lot of violent nightmares lately. Many of them revolve around the theme of me getting stabbed or cut with a knife by some wacko. Those are the ones that make me wake up in a cold sweat. I can still "feel" the knife blade slicing me. It's almost like that happened to me in another life and I'm remembering the feel of it.

I attribute these bad dreams to the fact that as soon as I lay down in bed, I always have a hard time falling asleep because I start thinking of the mess that the US is in and I get really angry.

I had another nightmare last night.

"I was taking my kids age 10 & 7 to see President Obama speak in my home town. After the speech he made about the onset of peak oil. We were invited to meet the President backstage as his two daughters were the exact same ages as my kids.

We were just about to meet the President when someone pulled out a gun and tried to shoot him- at the last second I jumped in front and save him from being shot by taking the bullet. After I had recovered from the gun shot wound the President invited my family to his summer retreat in Hawaii. While there we watched the movie independance day with the President and his family. That night the phone in the guest room started to ring at 3:00AM- and I was disturbed that no one was answering it. So I picked up the line- on the other end was NORAD who told me that they were tracking a fleet of nuclear missles comming over the baltic sea from Russia or China. I then told NORAD that it was probally just radar reflections off the moon again and went back to bed.

The next morning the President told me that had been a test for me to see if I was trustworthy. That really the Roswell aliens were secretly controlling the US government for the last 60 years and he had been just been implanted with mind control devices by the aliens that would prevent him from making decisions that they didn't agree with." Then I woke up.

Hey who knows- it could happen right???
