CHICAGO Chicago police say they plan to install cameras on 125 new squad cars over the next two months.
Fleet Management Commissioner Michael Picardi said yesterday the cameras will make police officers safer.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I')llinois State Police have 12-hundred vehicles with cameras, and the Cook County sheriff's office has cameras on 144 of its 255 marked squad cars. State Police spokesman Lincoln Hampton says the cameras are a plus for troopers.
Picardi also says he's experimenting with placing tiny microphones on unmarked squad cars that are powerful enough to record conversations on the street.
But Ed Yohnka of the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois says he would be concerned if police record conversations without a warrant.

Someone should yell "DOWN WITH BIG BROTHER!!" when standing directly underneath of a microphone in full view of a camera just to see what happens. I wonder if they have a Minipax and Minitrue there? I dread those who have went into room 101, hopefully I do not get sent there.

I noticed somebody's using the sketch of the Unabomber as an avatar, and Ayoob posted a new thread about the Unabomber. Hawkcreek was talking longingly about bridges in Alaska being blown up by the "bad guys".
I'm sure the Feds have put two and two together, and realized that Peak Oil is magnet for disgruntleds and fruitcakes. It's only a matter of time until some peak oil nut decides to take matters into his own hands.
So what do you think? Are the Feds monitoring peakoil.com? Will they infiltrate peak oil groups to defuse them? Or are the peak oilers so impotent that such measures are unnecessary?

Romanticizing violence is bad politics (Unabomber, etc.)
Talking about it on the Web is dumb dumb dumb.

If anybody is attracted to violent acts of protest, please first read the history of the 60s. People's lives were ruined and much unnecessary pain was caused by young people who didn't realize what they were getting into.

This topic has come up before. Just ask Aaron for some of the domains that have been visiting this site regularly. Savinar's site gets similar hits. Computers within every federal agency visit the sites regularly. CIA, FBI, DIA, etc. etc.

Why shouldn't they monitor this site? I say the more the merrier.

I mean, obviously anyone on here who starts talking about blowing shit up should be locked up before they do.

And the rest? The rest is freedom of speech. We don't live in Soviet Russia, we can say what we like about the gov't.

And if enough gov't agents actually read the stuff that's on here, then maybe things might start to change in Washington as more people become Peak Oil aware.

Besides, several members have already mentioned that they are police officers, and they aren't that threatening, now are they? Come on people, stop being so paranoid.
