"The Oil Age Is Over" Quote Question

Unread postby progman89 » Sun 27 Mar 2005, 20:48:03

I have a question on the book "The Oil Age Is Over." I am in a high school debate league and wish to verify that the following is actually a quote from the book. Is it, or is it not?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('The Oil Age Is Over possibly', 'T')he biggest problem with TDP is that it is being advertised as a means to maintain business as usual. Such advertising promotes further consumption, provides us with a dangerously false sense of security, and encourages us to continue thinking we don’t need to make this issue a priority.

Look, progman89, I wouldn't mind answering the question, but I also don't want to completely re-read Savinar's book (at least, not tonight!) trying to find this quote. The book's in Q&A format, so knowing WHAT this quote is talking about may help me (or others here) bee-line for the question that would have this quote as an answer.

In other words, what does TDP mean? An advertising campaign? An alternative fuel source? A resource war strategy? Help us out here, and we will try to help you. OK? OK! :)

it's the process in which you melt plastics and other trash to make oil to remake those products again.

It is, indeed, Matt, and thank you for the confirmation! Thank YOU for explaining what it was, TrueKaiser! It helped me find the exact paragraph!

OK, progman89, the quote is a LITTLE different from the one you have (probably from Matt's first edition of the book). The new edition has this paragraph at the bottom of page 61, the end of the answer to question 45:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he main problem I see is not with the TD process itself, but that so many people feel it offers us a way to maintain business as usual. Such thinking promotes further consumption, provides us with a dangerously false sense of security, and encourages us to continue thinking we don’t need to make the radical overhaul of our civilization a priority because of "new technology."

Really, though, progman89, you should own this book. Go over to www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net and order one! If money's a problem (if you're a student, that's understandable!), just send Matt an e-mail (he's got that option on the main page) and explain your situation. I'm sure he'd work something out for you!

Anyway, there's your quote. Good luck in your debate! I hope you get the point across to people, because it's your generation that will bear the brunt of what's coming, and it's a good idea to be informed about and prepared for it!
