$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('AgentR', 'I')ts an excuse really... so much 'they'... with broad brush strokes sweeping the field.
Social science is built on useful generalizations. You know it's true since you live here, but I'll dig up the statistics if I have to. I'm not going to cite individual references for all my points either, so I guess you'll have to get used to some generalizations for the time being.
Illegals are an unbalanced drain on taxpayers resources, plain and simple.
My girlfriend took 7 years to immigrate here legally and become a US citizen. She works two jobs now, including teaching at the local community college to give back to the community. How dare you suggest that other people can flaunt the immigration laws simply with the excuse that "they work hard", after she worked her ass off to become a citizen through the proper channels. The process took almost a decade. Illegals get a free ride until they start paying taxes and buying insurance, in the mean time completely throwing a monkey wrench in the health care, insurance and school system, and living off the insurance money and tax money of citizens. I pay for them to be here. So that gives me a right to voice my opinion about it, since I'm financially vested in the matter.
Before you get all high on your horse, my ex-wife was a teacher in a Central Texas community with ~20% illegal immigrants. Her biggest frustrations came from illegal families. Her advice about what needed to be done at home to improve the students' grades fell on deaf ears. Children were pulled out of school in April to go back to Mexico with their families, as this is the seasonal, traditional time to return to work back home. This virtually negated their year of school in the US and presented the administration with a difficult decision about whether these children could ever be passed to the next grade. The illegal families showed no respect to the school; the family was more important.
