Are you thinking about Ike? The Hurricane watch people are urgently warning folks to GET OUT OF GALVESTON! They are using phrases like "certain death." With this one, it isn't the wind strength so much as the surge due to the fantastic size of it. Then comes the damage to refineries and the aftermath of that. Blue sky in Galveston with the storm nearly 200 miles away and already 15 foot waves crashing over the sea wall.

Good luck Aaron and the rest of you coastal dwelling Texans. Looks like this is the Big One.

Shanny, If I recall correctly, your parents still live in Houston? I hope they're on their way out to you. I hope Aaron gets his family out of harms' way, gosh this must be difficult with a new baby and all.

My best to all of you Houstonians and Texans.
Stay strong.

Most in Houston are being told to sit tight, I read, to avoid the traffic bottleneck of Rita which caused more loss of life than the storm. It is 50 miles inland but there is a major shipping channel and Ike may head straight up it. It's eerie to think that the main fury of the storm will hit around midnight.

I know, that's typically when all the experts and talking heads on television are getting their beauty sleep.
If you give a man a fish you will have kept him from hunger for a day. If you teach a man to fish he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.
