Warning: plot spoiler. Samuel L. Jackson in an Academy Award performance. He's a has been heavy-weight World Contender boxer who lies about his identity. Josh Hartnett does a yeoman's job as the Sports Writer who gets deceived but ultimately redeemed in the end. But I've never seen Jackson play such a roll with such conviction. Brilliant. A used up ex-boxer wino on the streets with a rep he doesn't want. A wise guy tough kid who knows his rep confronts him. Jackson, in spite of himself, drunk and old, kicks the kid's ass seven weeks to Sunday and then drops dead. What a flick!
