$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Serial_Worrier', 'E')verything is humming along where I am. Power UP to SUVs!

Is it?

I dont notice these places closing down because I never visit them, but my wife manages a local paper that delivers papers to a lot of the places I list. She says she has never seen so many places go out of business like this. In july it was like 5 or 6 a week were going under. Now it has slowed to 3 or 4 a month, but a lot of the ones going out of business are good locally owned businesses that have been around 7-15 years or more. I dont know about you, but it is startling to me to see so many well established places going out of business.

Keep in mind the paper is mostly in restaurants and coffee shops, but there are some in other places.

Small Town Northern Virginia:

1 of 4 coffee shops has gone belly up;

The weaker of the "expensive" restaurants is supposedly on the death watch;

Yet, there are plans for a new Taco Bell, a new fancy restaurant in the old firehouse building now that the Fire/Rescue departments will be combined in a brand new "super" complex at the edge of town;

Big news is a new Walgreens coming soon and a whole new shopping center with a Harris Teeter supermarket and associated satellite stores.

Nothing yet appears to be abnormal, especially now that gasoline has declined substantially. The massive SUVs and pick-ups are everywhere and capitalism keeps on keeping on in all its energy intensive glory.
The future ain't what it used to be.
