My last plane flight ever

Unread postby RedStateGreen » Thu 24 Jul 2008, 23:13:27

This weekend. We're going to CA one last time.

I won't miss the long lines, security, stinky cramped planes, or boredom in airports. After I get home I'm never getting on a plane again.

I'm very likely hitting my last one in a couple of weeks as well.

My last plane flight ever was in January 1969, to Air Force basic training in Texas, from California.

My last plane flight was a few months ago. My second-to-last plane flight was in 2006. This has been a big transition for me as I used to fly internationally about 6 times a year for my job.

The last time I was on a plane was in 2000. I doubt I will ever fly again. If I can't get there on the ground, I just won't be going.

Have a good trip, Red!

The German air controllers at Frankfurt Airport are renowned as a short-tempered lot. They not only expect one to know one's gate parking location, but how to get there without any assistance from
them. So it was with some amusement that we listened to the following exchange between Frankfurt ground control and a British Airways 747, call sign Speedbird 206.

Speedbird 206: " Frankfurt , Speedbird 206 clear of active runway."

Ground: "Speedbird 206. Taxi to gate Alpha One-Seven."

The BA 747 pulled onto the main taxiway and slowed to a stop.

Ground: "Speedbird, do you not know where you are going?"

Speedbird 206: "Stand by, Ground, I'm looking up our gate location now."

Ground (with quite arrogant impatience):

"Speedbird 206, have you not been to Frankfurt before?"

Speedbird 206 (coolly): "Yes, twice in 1944, but it was dark, -- and I didn't land."

I have to fly for work now, but when I retire I will never fly again. I hate the airlines, and especially those rotten plicks with TSA. I would rather spend a month going coast to coast on a bicycle than have one of those idiot un-employables search my luggage one more time.
I will be glad to see the airlines curl up and die.

that's not funny and I doubt it really happened.

As for flying, I think I'll plenty in the future, if only for holiday purposes. When it gets more expensive railways will become the preferred mode of transportation for in Europe destinations though.

ah, you guys should come over to Europe some time, maybe for an extended vacation, so you can see as much as possible...as for on ground transportation; a car uses as much as being a passenger on a plane, and I believe that, apart from a line in Cali and DC - NY the railsystem sucks in the States, at least for the time being. So how can you say you won't be flying in the future? It will become more of an exclusive thing to do too, doing away with or reducing many of the annoyances that are associated with the mass transit status that it has today.

ef me, I'm positive today....almost cornucopian wouldn't you say?

I wish I could fly a lot more than I do. I always get a window seat whenever possible. Viewing Earth from seven miles in the air is something I wish I could do every day. What a miracle.

200 years ago, traveling from one side of this continent to the other would use up a large percentage of a year to accomplish. Now we do it in less than six hours.

I get along fine with TSA people. I'm nice to them, they're nice to me.

I've never flown First Class. Maybe some day.

We're going to sorely miss the commercial airlines when they all go under. Only the super-rich will be able to fly, in their own planes. Lucky stiffs.

Oh, that's my favorite part, too. On my recent flight to China, I got out of my seat often to walk around the plane and look outside wherever I could, as I didn't have a window seat. Going over the mountains in Alaska was breathtaking. Also, on the way home, travelling south down along the BC coast was fabulous. As we got closer to Vancouver, I could see all the rivers and lakes; this was an angle I had never seen BC from before!

We may take one more trip, perhaps to Hawaii or to the east coast of Canada.

I flew over Alaska and Vancouver en route to Tokyo.

I may try to go back to Thailand one more time next year. My best friend's wife gave him a pass to tag along with me and spend a week in Pattaya drinking beer and diving on the cheap.

It's an adventure.

Pattaya is great.
I haven't been there in a while but went several times in the late 80's and early 90's. Hopefully it is still a good place. I've heard it still is.

I had never heard of Pattaya until just now. I looked up some pictures; it looks very pretty, nice beaches.

A diving trip sure does sound like a great adventure, PrairieMule.

I still would also like to see San Francisco.

I've been on 40 flights this year and will be on 20 more by the end of the year. No other way to practice in Seattle and Montana at the same time. [smilie=dontknow.gif]

Why not just focus your practice in Montana (or Seattle)? I don't see the logic of doing the commuting thing to Seattle at all...just pick one place that you like best and make a go of it there. It'll not be too long before they start eliminating flights to out-of-the-way places like Montana, for sure...

Loved Pattaya. I spent maybe $200 the 8 days I was there. One thing of note is the Pattaya Snake show. This little private zoo is located in a rough ghetto but worth the trip.

Check out the Indian spitting cobra at about 5:44. This cobra is a real crowd pleaser.

I flew Dallas to Bangkok round trip $1200. I am hoping I can go one more time.
