Good day from Pheba, from the farm:
Even though Grandma's handkerchiefs smelled like To A Wild Rose, and Doublemint gum, does not mean they were dirty. They acquired the smell from being in her purse.
When one corner was "used", another clean corner would be used.
Then the handkerchief would be laundered.
A handkerchief was usually washed daily.
Green, gross snotty boogers were not left to set up on the handkerchief like concrete.
Folks, if we don't toughen up a bit we just are not going to survive.
In the same vein, my daughter never wore a paper diaper. I raised her on cloth diapers. There was no such thing as a "wet wipe".
When we traveled I put a few wet wash cloths in a baggie. Ziploc had not been invented.
We got by just fine, and there was very little waste.
Cloth diapers had to be changed with greater frequency.
The length of time people leave paper diapers on their children is disgusting. I also wonder at the baby's exposure to plastics in the diapers.
Jeff Foxworthy said it best: You might be a redneck if you think the 8-12 pounds on the Pampers box means its holding capacity."
My daughter never had a diaper rash, but then I did not use plastic pants very often. Plastic pants went over diapers for when we traveled.
One an amusing note; I would attempt to use plastic pants on my daughter when she slept to keep her mattress dry.
As soon as she learned how she would rip the plastic pants off.
The kid is not stupid.
Every morning she would awaken her daddy by dragging her peedy diaper across his face. She always did this to him, never to me.
I thought it was very funny. Her daddy was not amused.
Pheba.
