HBO has put out some very fine shows. Thanks for the recommendation of The Wire. I will watch it. As for great car chase scenes, the best one I've seen is in the movie To Live And Die In L.A.. The driver played by William Peterson is an adrenaline junkie Secret Service agent who is trying to bring in a counterfeiter played by Willem Dafoe. Peterson can't get enough money from the Service to do a deal with Dafoe to bring him down. But he gets a tip about a buyer coming down from San Francisco to buy stolen diamonds for 50 G. So he and his partner decide to rip off the buyer. They are in for some unexpected surprises, explained at the end of the clip.

-Carnivale

Carnivale is very good, albeit far too short-lived a series. :(

Pity it was cancelled. It was original and very nice.

Oh dear, there have been so many really good shows over the years...

Star Trek (DS9 is pure brilliance for me)
Babylon 5 (a truly emotional epic, don't get stuff like that anymore)
Jericho ("How does it feel Jake? "What?" "Making history" Ugh!)
Space: Above and Beyond (a must see)

etc.

The fact there are people in the world that are ready to print 5 trillion dollars to save a dead lender and there aren't people who would spend 50-60 million to make superb stories like Jericho, it is sickening.

.
I noticed that a couple of folks mentioned "Lost" as one of their favorites.
I enjoyed the initial season, but could never figure out those 'magic torches' they used. They used lots of 'em in every night scene, all uniform and with identical flames; yet never a word about how they were made, what was the fuel, and why the flame never burned down the stick, which happens with every torch I make!
I want one of those magic torches ! :)

Anyway, for me it's the Carol Burnette Show sketches with harvey Korman and Carol's fat suit!

Micheal Mann can really put a suspense/action movie together. For those that have not seen To Live and Die in LA, it's worth a rent. Remember this is the guy who directed the bank shootout scene in Heat.

I'll include some Japanese comedy/drama that my wife forces me to watch. Some of it is really good, even though it's not my regular taste.
Star no koi: A review: "Ah... this show bring me to tears like an annoying little girly girl..."
This one is Korean:I'm Sorry, I love you.
Here is a animation:Bamboo Blade
These are all good for a guy to watch with his wife/girlfriend, without becoming too bored. If anyone wants more recommendations, I would be happy to give more.

Cheeziz K. Reist....nobody here liked "Twilight Zone" (1959-64)???
Also Gene Deitch's "Tom Terrific" which was a cartoon shown on "Captain Kangaroo" back in the '50's. Again I must mention Soupy Sales.

"Twilight Zone" is classic, I would have added that if I thought of it.

Time Tunnel
The Outer Limits (1960's)
Star Trek
The Invaders
Burke's Law
The Fugitive
The Helen Reddy Show (sorry...she was my teenage crush)
The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour
The Avengers
The Prisoner
Boston Legal

Battlestar Galactica (2003-)
is in a class by itself. Wow.

Dead Like Me
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

Enjoyable TV and movies are something special. Hundreds of thousands of dollars to millions to hundreds of millions are spent to create the product, and we can see the final result for 'free', or for $10, or own a copy for $5-$20. That amazes me.
