Energy bills to rise by more than 60% . TSHHTF

Unread postby KevO » Fri 18 Jul 2008, 07:48:10

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'E')nergy bills could rise by more than 60% within the next few years, a report for the UK's biggest domestic energy supplier Centrica has said.

It said annual average gas bills could rise from £600 to more than £1,000 early in the next decade.

Continuing high oil prices could lead to rises in the cost of both gas and electricity, it added.

Centrica managing director Jake Ulrich warned that gas prices were likely to continue rising "for some time".

"I think it is going to hit people hard," he said.

As this is a tad bove the current 3.8% UK inflation rate and a bit more above the target 2%, I guess we will see some pretty serious wage claims in the near future and inflation rate to match Zimbabwe.
All we have to do is invade Russia and grab the gas, what's stopping us?

Invade Russia during the winter.. excellent plan. I'm sure our leaders will go for it.

UK invades Russia? There's no need; most of the Russians are in London.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('KevO', 'E')nergy bills could rise by more than 60% within the next few years, a report for the UK's biggest domestic energy supplier Centrica has said.

At least it seems slightly more optimistic than the Financial Times:

LINK

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')hen the oil price rises, the gas price follows, typically with a lag of about nine months. A report this week from Cambridge Energy Research Associates, another consultancy, predicted that European gas prices would roughly double from the start of 2008 to April 2009, as a result of the rise in oil from about $70 a barrel a year ago to roughly $140 a barrel today.

Methinks I'll be wearing an extra layer or two this winter. :(

Here in Upstate New york, the papers have taken to warning folks that they can expect to pay an extra $700 + for fuel oil this winter. The local suppliers have stopped taking pre-pay purchases at a locked in rate.

I'd be putting my money into an extra tank and fill that baby up as well to hedge for next year's price increases. Or switch over the NG and do the same thing with an extra tank or two as well as a wood burning furnace and extra coats to make those tanks last several years.

But I'm in the warm South, so I'm fine as is. :)

Evidently, the energy companies are expecting a lot of consumers will be unwilling/unable to pay for heating costs this coming fall & winter.

Here in NW Wyoming, one of the largest suppliers of home heating propane has sent notification to all of their customers... advising that all future deliveries of propane will be CASH/CREDIT CARD ON DELIVERY... no more "on account" sales.

My supplier said the same in Alabama when I topped of the 1000 gallon tank that furnishes gas to my stove... I should nt have to use the wood cook stove for the next 5 years...LOL unless grandma uses the oven to add heat to the house. ( she gets tired of splitting wood for the heater....)

There was a bit on NPR recently (Talk of the Nation?) that advised listeners that within 2-3 years, the cost to heat a home via electric versus gas/oil would be about the same, and that people needed to get ready for that now.

If that's the case, plug-in hybrids + increased electric heat is going to kill the grid as it stands right now. At least, my electric meter spins 50% faster when the heat's running versus the A/C.

Well, many of our heating oil, kerosene and propane customers will insulate, weatherize, replace windows and replace their grossly oversized, grossly inefficient, poorly designed heat & hot water systems. People will also turn down thermostats, heat fewer zones and install alternative primary and supplemental heating equipment such as wood, pellet and coal stoves or boilers.

Customers with natural gas available generally switch to natural gas when they replace their oil fired equipment. Many people haven't switched since they've never connected to the gas mains, haven't wanted to spend money on system replacement or they already have an efficient home and efficient oil fired equipment. Some people are also afraid of natural gas and propane running in their homes.

Since many people are already using more than double or triple the fuel necessary due to heat loss, gross inefficiency and poor design they're already paying more than $10.00 per gallon effectively.

As fuel prices have risen, more people are buying higher efficiency boilers, furnaces, water heaters and performing upgrades like zoning, control strategies, outdoor reset controls etc.

In the past, high efficiency boilers like Energy Kinetics System 2000, three pass horizontal boilers. (Buderus/Viessmann/Biasi/Burnham MPO and Others), outdoor resets controls, indirect water heaters and zoning upgrades weren't popular due to low fuel prices. We've seen the same lax demand in the past due to low fuel prices in the high end pellet boiler and wood gasification boiler market.

Since the system designer, installers and service techs are the most important pieces of the puzzle, the demand for high end installations is rising and the demand for low-bid jobs is dropping. This is a good thing since many newer supposedly efficient boilers operate in the 55 to 65 percent net efficiency range due to the bogus AFUE rating system.

Gas bills up 35% - with effect immediatly!

Unread postby KevO » Wed 30 Jul 2008, 12:59:00

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'B')ritish Gas owner Centrica says it is raising gas prices by a record 35% and electricity prices by 9%.

The UK's biggest domestic energy supplier said that the price hikes would take place with immediate effect.

It blamed "soaring wholesale energy prices", but added that standard tariff prices would not rise again in 2008.

The move comes just a few days after rival EDF Energy put up gas prices by 22% and electricity prices by 17%, with other firms expected to follow suit.

Watchdog Energywatch said it believed the 35% gas bill rise was the biggest single increase in the price of a utility seen to date.

Brits are almost exactly like Americans . . .

for the most part, fat and ignorant of anything beyond their borders.

The big difference is, Brits are pussies and have no guns.

well some have guns but pro rata, Brits are the hardest nation in the wesern world.
Nobody messes with the Brits. If you had a football team with fans, you'd understand.
We are also the hardest drinkers, use more drugs than the Afghans and have intelligence AND passports.
If the US was populated by 250 million Brits, it really would kick ass.
Anyway the Royal Family run the neocons and basically all yanks are descended from Brit sperm NOT the other way around.
:P :-D
No, it's the Ozzies that are pussies, even considering they are also descended from the sperm of Brits - albeit convicted ones.
