You guys seem to be arguing using the assumption that
we actually have some say in this. I said it earlier in the thread - but how much impact do you think you really have? in Africa?
The reason you help your sister is because you can. And because in the scheme of things you do have some responsibility to her, that no African can ever claim on you. It's as simple as that. You help your sister, you can look at a life you have impacted and know that you made the world better. It's not like there's not enough misery to go around right here at home. After you're done helping your sister, if you still have resources and energy, you can help your community. After that maybe you can join the army. After that you can run for Congress. After that you can be Ghandi and Mother Theresa.
It's not that you don't care about Africa (although you might not), it's that Africa doesn't care about you.
