Sen. Harry Reid is the democratic leader of the Senate, but he says some pretty weird things. Here is Harry Reid claiming that coal and oil make people sick.

Sen. Harry Reid's new YouTube follies

No wonder our US energy policy is in a mess, with delusional people like this running the Senate.

Good thing Harry is driven everywhere in a government limo.......he might get sick if he had to pump his own gas! :)

Maybe like that's the reason why we are just about the only country in the world with no energy policy.

It really brings into question the health benefits of riding a bike to school or work when you get stuck behind one of these death traps, spewing their toxins right into your air. I just try to sit on side opposite the exhaust and breathe lightly at stops.

Thats all very interesting, but car exhaust is not oil.

I agree that car exhaust is harmful to health, but so is almost everything else when its combusted. Try barbecuing a steak over a fire, and you'll generate some carcinogens (and even some evil PM-10 soot!).

Curiously and amusingly, Sen. Harry Reid claims oil makes people sick. I don't know if he drinks it or rubs it on his skin, but there he is blathering on about oil being a health hazard.

Surely Sen. Reid can tell the difference between car exhaust and oil? :)

From some of my earlier reading, diseases due to burning of fossil fuel causes 50,000 deaths per year in the US and anywhere between 250,000 to 750,000 in China, depending on whose figures you use.

Goes way beyond just making people sick.

Anyway, referring to oil, wasn't there some tribe which used crude oil in their ceremonies? You know, when oil was plentiful and seeping out of the ground. Wonder if it made them sick.
